Anastasia sat opposite of Jonah in the small, colorful, frozen yogurt shop in town. They hadn’t said a word to each other but it wasn’t unusual for them to sit in silence when they were together. Neither teenager cared much for talking.

However, the way Jonah kept glancing at Ana every other minute made Anastasia feel a bit odd. With a spoonful of cheesecake fro-yo in hand, Ana sighed, “What’s up?” she asked him. “You keep staring at me.”

A light blush crept up Jonah’s neck. “Sorry,” he mumbled.

Ana rolled her eyes at her best friend, “I know I’m beautiful but seriously you need to stop staring,” she joked and Jonah choked on his frozen yogurt.

The blush deepened and traveled up into his cheeks. The small brunette laughed as she stared at her best friend with amusement. She’d never seen him blush until now and she felt her ego enlarge at the fact that she was able to do that to him.

“Seriously, why do you keep staring at me?” she asked him as she gathered another spoonful of yogurt and put it in her mouth.

Jonah bowed his head. “No reason,”

Ana rolled her eyes, “Bull, what’s on your mind?”

Jonah shook his head, “Nothing.”

“You’re lying,” she narrowed her eyes, suddenly hurt that he wouldn’t tell her what was on his mind. She knew there was something up, she just couldn’t point out what.

Jonah straightened in his seat and squared his broad shoulders, “How does it feel to be lied to?”

The air between the two shifted and this time, Ana sunk in her booth. “I apologized for that already- multiple times. I swear I didn’t know she was his girlfriend. He lied to me, Jonah.”

“You believed him,”

Ana narrowed her eyes, “I wouldn’t have hooked up with him if you hadn’t left me!” she snapped earning a few odd looks from the others in the shop.

Her outburst had been at random.

The expression on Jonah’s face shifted. “So you made-out with that asshole to get back at me?”

Ana snorted, “You screw girls at every party we go to, Jonah. Probably girls with boyfriends, and I made out with one guy and you act like I just told you I slept with ten guys in a week! Don’t double standard me! Why is it okay for you to go out and hook up but not okay for me to do the same every once in a blue moon?”

“Because you’re better than that,” he grounded out before he slid out of the booth angrily and stormed out of the frozen yogurt shop. Anastasia watched as he walked across the parking lot to his car and stopped just as he was about to open his door.

He looked in the direction of the shop and met Ana’s gaze through the glass. Ana sighed as she grabbed his empty cup of frozen yogurt along with hers and slid out of the booth. He had driven her here and despite being angry he was waiting for her at the car.

The two drove back to the high school in silence. It wasn’t until Jonah parked his car next to hers that he spoke.

“I’ll swing by later tonight,” he told her and Ana stared at him with unreadable expression.

“Why? So you can yell at me some more?”

Jonah sighed and placed his hand on her knee. He leaned over and kissed her temple. Butterflies appeared in Anastasia’s stomach as she felt his cold hips on her temple.

“I’m not going to let you sit through a family dinner with Azeala glaring at you the entire night. We’ll go out for pizza, and this time I promise we won’t fight.”

Anastasia softly smiled at her dark haired best friend, “Make it pizza and a movie afterwards and I’m game.”

Jonah chuckled and nodded, “Alright.”
