Black and white. The girls were wearing black and white except for Jes who opted for the all black. Jade thought she should have worn the same, not the black and white that she, Perrie and Leigh Anne were in, because she felt the darkness all over her, the dark mood, the grief. She received news of a family member's passing and that was enough to make her sad. But what saddened her more is the fact that Perrie was not sensitive enough the past few days, and now Jade misses how Perrie would comfort her in her time of sorrow. Instead, Perrie's being distant.
For the past few weeks, Perrie had been cold, and very attached to someone else and Jade had been lonely, not to mention jealous. She was so used to having her pale-skinned babe so attached to her, like she wanted to be right beside all the time. But the past few weeks have been really tough. She did not know if Perrie intended to ignore her or that she was just insensitive to the brunette's need and longing of her. Sometimes Jade would think that Perrie is just too tired from their rehearsals and she gets too sleepy in the evening, leaving them no time to at least cuddle or talk lovingly like they always used to. This was everything, aside from the family grief, that bothered her, up until they got on the Apple stage to render their fans some of their songs from the new album.
"Ready?" the stage assistant asked.
"Yeah." all four girls answered, even though Jade wanted to just run and lay down in bed and cry her sorrows out. Was she ready? She thinks not, but she was professional. Their fans perceive her the most pro of them four. And she could not let the girls and the fans down.
As they got on the stage, the fans cheered for them but it did not seem to cheer up the little brunette. She missed holding Perrie's hand as they got on stage. They always did that-in DNA tour, Salute, Get Weird and Glory Days, but this time it seemed the blonde was distant.
The music started to play while Perrie greeted the people back, and started singing. Jade loved the sound of her voice, so angelic, so powerful, so lovely. But it welled more saltiness in her eyes, threatening to fall any minute soon. She turned to Leigh Anne who still had no idea what the matter was about. Her sad eyes made Leigh smile comfortingly at her. But it was too soon that it was the dark skinned girl's turn to sing and Jade felt she was alone again. She was thinking, grieving inside, but being the performer she was, still made the first notes of her part, but then, the words stung her so much, they hit her hard inside and her throat clamped, her eyes gave way to the tears she had been holding back.
"...somewhere down the line we went and lost it..." In her head she was asking, "Have we lost it, Perrie, have we?"
And her walls, her smile dropped, her voice no longer came out and she broke down. Good thing everyone in the venue knew to back her up in her part and the song still went on. It somehow lifted her heart. Leigh also gave her a comforting tap on her back as she tried to pick herself up.
It somehow made it lighter all through the performance, but at the end of the song, when Perrie added drama to the notes as she sang, the emptiness once again dropped the weight into Jade's chest and she let the tears in her eyes flow at last.
"Only you." Perrie sang, and the music stopped. Jes and Leigh came to Jade immediately and gave her comfort in embrace. Perrie came in later than them, offering her shoulder for the brunette.
"You'll be fine, Baby" the blonde whispered in her ear and that was enough to boost Jade's confidence a bit and gave her strength to go on with the entire show.
When they got done, they all went to the dressing room to change and chill a bit.
Jes, being the mum sensed something was still off with Jade and signaled to Leigh.
"Hey, do you think it's not about her family but with Pez?" she whispered so the younger members would not hear.
"It did not occur to me, 'cause Jade was on a phone call with her mam earlier today about her Nana. Though it does seem that Jade's got something about Pez" Leigh answered honestly.
"What do you think should we do?"
Leigh smiled at Jes that I-got-an-idea smile and turned to the other two members.
"Hey, Pez, Jade, Jes and I are just gonna take a little look at something somewhere. We'll be right back in a few minutes. You okay here?"
Jade seemed to shake her head a little, pain imminent in her eyes.
"Yeah sure." Perrie answered. And Jade just shrugged and nodded a bit to confirm.
As soon as the older members closed the door behind them, a loud sigh escaped Jade's lips and she began to break down again.
Perrie immediately rushed to her, wrapping her in her arms.
"Nana's in a better place now, Jadey."
All the more that Jade sobbed. Perrie did not seem to catch up to what really is putting her down. Mustering courage, she whispered, "Somewhere down the line we went and lost it... have we lost it Perrie?" echoing the question that was in her head all night long.
Perrie looked at her with confused expression in her eyes.
"Baby, was it about me?" Her face switched from confused to worried.
Jade nodded, and sobbed again.
"I'm sorry Babe.I think I'm overreacting." Jade sobbed.
Perrie just pulled her even closer.
"No, no. Tell me please. What have I done?"
Jade just fell into the embrace, a bit calmed by it.
"I don't know, really. Maybe it's the sad news back home that's messing my head up? I don't know, really, maybe I'm just too lonely, a bit too alone in dealing with the pain. Maybe I need time to think if it really is about you" she muttered into Perrie's arm.
It was Perrie's turn to sigh. "Alright. But let me hold you like this for a little longer, if it helps."
Jade snuggled close to her and tightened their embrace.
"It does, a lot." The comforting Perrie was back. At least she knew that Perrie still cared and that was enough for now.
