After breakfast, Anushka asked her brother Anshul to take Giya out for a date. It was their anniversary, and she knew they needed some space away from her. Anshul and Giya were in a long-distance relationship, and with Anshul's demanding profession, they rarely had time for each other. Anushka wanted them to have a special day together.
At first, Anshul and Giya were hesitant about going out. They still felt guilty for hiding the truth of their relationship from Anushka for a year. They weren't sure if she had truly forgiven them or was just pretending to. Anushka realized she had to convince them of her forgiveness, or else they wouldn't go out and enjoy their time together. Knowing them well, she decided to take matters into her own hands by booking a table at an Indian restaurant for lunch, followed by a long drive and a movie.
Once everything was arranged, Anushka literally pushed Anshul and Giya out of the apartment. They were stubborn, but she was more so. After they left, she went to her room and collapsed onto the bed, exhausted by the morning's drama. The events had been more shocking than surprising to her. Of course, she was hurt—Anshul and Giya were the closest people to her, and she never expected them to keep such a big secret. But her hurt disappeared when she saw them both crying. She knew they hadn't meant to hurt her intentionally. If she had been in their position, she might have done the same.
Anushka felt both happy and sad for Anshul and Giya. Happy because they had completed one year together, but sad because their relationship wasn’t a normal one, much like their parents'. Her father Arav was an actor like Anshul, while her mother was an ordinary person like Giya. Over the years, she had seen her parents go through many ups and downs, but they always found their way back to each other. No matter how difficult things became, their love only grew stronger. Anushka wanted the same for her brother and Giya.
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, Anushka didn’t realize when she fell asleep. She was only awakened by her phone ringing. Groggily, she reached for the phone on her side table. It was Virat. Cursing under her breath, she checked the time—it was already 1 PM. After a moment of hesitation, she finally answered, slightly nervous about Virat’s reaction since she wasn’t ready yet. She didn’t want him to be upset with her.
“Hey,” Anushka squeaked, her voice timid.
“Hey!” Virat greeted back. He found her squeaky voice cute but didn’t say it aloud.
“Umm, are you ready?” Virat asked, trying to conceal his excitement about their date. He didn’t want to come off as too eager.
“No,” Anushka whispered, afraid of how Virat would react. She quickly said a silent prayer.
“Why not? It’s already 1,” Virat responded, puzzled but not angry. He valued punctuality.
“I didn’t even realize I dozed off again. Give me 15 more minutes. I’ll be ready soon,” she hurriedly explained. “And please don’t be mad,” she added, almost pleading.
Virat chuckled at her request. He wasn’t upset; in fact, it was okay with him if she had fallen asleep. She was probably tired. However, her pleading tone made him wonder if she was afraid of him. He made a mental note to ask her about it later.
“I’m not mad, Nush,” Virat whispered reassuringly, and Anushka breathed a sigh of relief.
“Just get ready, alright? I’ll be there in 15 minutes,” he added.
“Okay,” she replied, ending the call and rushing to get ready.
Anushka pulled out a blue, checkered off-shoulder summer dress and paired it with white sneakers. She tied her hair into a ponytail, as it was hot outside, and she preferred to keep her hair out of the way. She applied minimal makeup, as she wasn’t a fan of heavy makeup, and within 15 minutes, she was done. Anushka was pleased that she didn’t keep Virat waiting.
Three minutes later, her phone rang again. A smile crept onto her face when she saw Virat’s name on the screen. She admired his punctuality; he had said he’d arrive in 15 minutes, and here he was, right on time.
“Hey, you’re here?” she asked, even though she already knew the answer.
“Yesss,” Virat replied, dragging out the 's'. “Come downstairs, I’m waiting.”
“Okay,” Anushka said, cutting the call.
Before leaving, she checked herself in the mirror one last time. Satisfied with her appearance, she grabbed the apartment keys, locked the door behind her, and headed to the parking area. She didn’t bother informing Anshul or Giya since she expected to be back before them.
When Anushka reached the parking lot, the first thing she noticed was Virat, looking incredibly handsome. He was standing next to his car, engrossed in his phone. He didn’t even notice Anushka approaching until she lightly tapped him on the shoulder.
“Hey,” she greeted him softly.
Virat had been staring at her in awe since she arrived, and when he heard her soft voice, he smiled. She looked stunning, the blue dress complementing her perfectly.
“Hey! You look beautiful,” Virat complimented her.
Anushka blushed at his words. “Thank you. You look handsome too,” she replied shyly.
“Thank you,” Virat said with a smirk. He was used to compliments, but hearing it from Anushka made it feel special. Before he could open the car door for her, she beat him to it.
“I can open the door myself, Virat,” she said with a smile.
“I know, but I want to. Let me be a gentleman,” Virat winked and opened the door for her.
Shaking her head, Anushka gave up. She knew it was no use arguing with him. He would always do what he wanted anyway. She got in, and after ensuring she was comfortable, Virat slid into the driver’s seat, flashed her a smile, and started the car. As they drove, Anushka found herself watching him, noticing how focused he was. She had observed that even though Virat was a billionaire, he preferred driving himself, never hiring a driver.
“Music?” Virat suddenly asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
“Okay, but my choice,” she responded, earning a smile from him.
Anushka began shuffling through the radio stations, trying to find a song she liked. After a couple of minutes, she settled on one, even though she wasn’t familiar with the station. The song playing was *They Don’t Know About Us* by One Direction, a song she liked. She began humming along with the lyrics.
Virat glanced at her every now and then, struggling to keep his eyes on the road. Seeing her singing, he couldn’t help but lower the volume slightly, just so he could hear her more clearly. Anushka, too engrossed in the music, didn’t notice.
As the song reached its chorus, Virat started singing along. Anushka smiled when she heard him, but instead of turning off the music to hear him better, she lowered the volume even more.
When the song ended, both of them burst out laughing, having enjoyed their impromptu jamming session.
“I had fun,” they both said at the same time, and the laughter continued.
"Touch wood," Anushka said between giggles.
"Indeed," Virat grinned.
After a while, Virat parked the car. Anushka looked out the window, and her heart skipped a beat. It was the same restaurant where Anshul and Giya were having lunch. Anushka hadn’t told her brother about her relationship with Virat yet, and she cursed her luck. She didn’t want to ask Virat to go somewhere else, seeing how happy he was. But if Anshul saw them together, it could create problems for her. Reluctantly, she decided to go in, hoping she could come up with an excuse if they bumped into her brother. What she didn’t realize was that things weren’t as simple as they seemed. Anshul and Virat hadn't forgotten about the past—one she had overlooked entirely.
