Airport
Last night's radio show ran late, so everyone's working on two, maybe three hours of sleep. They're all tired, sleepy, and it's definitely not enough to deal with the hordes of fanatics waiting for them at the airport. But this is what they all signed up for when they agreed to become EXO.
I just wanted to dance, Jongin thinks for the hundredth time that morning. He fidgets with his cap, twisting it back and forth on his head, while his feet keep a steady beat on the van's floor. The knot of anxiety in his stomach makes it unable for him to keep still.
When the van stops, they're immediately surrounded by fans. The manager starts giving them instructions on where to go and what to do to make the whole process faster. They've done this more than enough times to remember the speech, but maybe it's the manager's own way of trying to keep them calm by giving them goals to focus on—like go to the counter, hand in your passport, get your ticket, wait for teammates, move toward gates in a close formation, etc.
Jongin is about to fix his cap again when Kyungsoo pulls his arm away, grabs his hand, and squeezes. He knows his hyung is even more scared than he is. Jongin would be terrified too if he was the older boy's height and had to delve into that mass of people. The fact that Kyungsoo is trying to reassure him makes Jongin's heart melt a little.
It's been almost three months since their 'bathtub kiss," and though there have been glances and touches aplenty they haven't had a moment to themselves. Jongin would like to think it's just because of their busy schedule and the joining of M to their activities and dorm. But Kyungsoo has definitely been avoiding him, always cutting their conversations short and saying he's too busy to accompany Jongin anywhere.
Jongin's had quite enough of Kyungsoo's attitude. In fact, he's determined to confront the boy as soon as they settle in at their hotel. There's nothing programmed until the next day, and most of the boys have plans to go sightseeing. Maybe I can play sick again, Jongin things.
Kyungsoo lets go of his hand. Before Jongin can protest their manager is shouting 'fighting,' getting out of the van and opening the side door. The noise is deafening. Hundreds of voices screaming, and dozens of cameras and flashes going off every second. The guards are already having a hard time keeping up the barrier to the front door with their hands and bodies.
Joonmyun steps out first, followed by Chen, Luhan and Sehun. This is what I signed up for, Jongin reminds himself and steps out with a thin-lipped smile. He waits for Kyungsoo who is still retrieving his back from under the van's seat, but the manager is screaming at him to move. Yixing and Minseok get out from the other van and run past him, trying to keep close to the others.
The manager snarls and pushes Jongin after them, and he has no choice but to follow or be crushed by the hundred hands that reach out to him.
