In the Dark

  "Cobb?"

  His profile stood in the darkness. At the sound of his name, his head snapped over in my direction. I saw the color in his eyes. Betrayal and sadness glistened in his them and pierced the silence of the atmosphere.

  "Cobb I'm sorry. I know the reason that you left. Jeremy was a bad man. I ignored you when he was around and I'm sorry."

  Cobb looked over. He still had hurt in his eyes but I knew that he accepted my appology. "Come here, Cobb." I smilied at him as tears of joy came trickling down my face at the sight of my companion. This all settled into Paris's head.

  "Cobby! You're home!" He let a noise escape his throat and ran over to the two of us. The comfort of home enveloped him and he became at ease. I still wondered if he was able to speak of if that was an element of my imagination.  

  It was late. Our group of misfortune lay awake in the light of the stars, feeling joy in the moment of each other's present. We celebrated the our presence as a trinity without a drop of sound. As the night grew late, we said our good nights, separated, and returned to the oceans of our dreams.

  "Mya." Hmm? "MYA!"

  "What? What?" I jumped my skin in fear of emergency. With my eyes open, I saw the humorous sight of Cobb and Paris on their stomachs looking into my eyes. Cobb's stomach rumbled.

  "Please get up, we are hungry." Paris gave me a smile that any girl her age would give that warms one's heart. "I have a craving for..hmm... cookies!!!"

  "Paris you can't have cookies for breakfast," Her smile dropped. "but you can have cake!" The smile that I loved instantly returned. She and Cobb rushed off the bed and ran into the kitchen. I heard a thud and worried, but was relieved when I heard Paris laugh.

  I stood and stretched. Moving over to my closet, My mind raced to the weeks behind me. I froze; a man who I trusted betrayed me, and I almost lost Cobb. Apparently I was lost in my thoughts for too long.

  "Come on Mya! The cake won't bake itself!!!" My cheeks flushed with red. Paris is good at catching me at the wrong times.

  "Alright, Alright. I'll be right over." As promised, I got changed,corrected my appearance and headed to the kitchen. "Paris, can you go get me an egg from the coop?"

"Yep!" I thanked her and gathered the other ingredients. Cobb stood at my side and waited for me to drop something, which never happened. Moments later, Paris returned with the egg. I added it to the mixture, put the cake in the furnace, and faced both Paris and Cobb.

  "Okay, the cake is going to take a few minutes," I said," do you want to go outside and go for a swim maybe?" They both nodded. "Okay, lets have some fun. Paris, go get your bathing on and meet me back here." I smiled.

  Only moments passed before we were both changed and back in the kitchen. The timer for the cake read 15 minutes. "Okay, we have fifteen minutes before the cake is done. Lets go!"

  The three of us raced to the river thats hosted the wheat farm. We planned to make the most of the fifteen minutes ahead of us.

  Through out the fifteen minutes, Paris was picked up and thrown into the water repeatedly, laughing the entire time, Cobb learned how to swim and we constantly splashed each other. All of us basically forgot about the week before.

  "Mya, the timer's done!" Paris screamed so loud that her voice echoed. I nodded and got out of the river. The two followed. 

  "You two dry off, wait out here, and I'll bring you cake." They nodded with delight. I walked inside and reached for the oven door. Then, I pulled out the cake and lay it on the cooling rack.

  My mouth watered from the aroma of the cake. As soon as I was about to give in and test the flavor, I heard from an un-lit corner of the room two bone chilling words,

  "Miss me?"

Yep, I'm back. I tried to write a decent chapter. I'm also sorry that it is short. It is 1:22 am :)
