The room was white. Snow white. The kind of white that was so white it invaded the privacy of your head. Bore into your thoughts and derailed all trails of thought. kept you from thinking straight. stopped you asking the right question.
Speaking of, what is the right question? should it be why am I here? I suppose it could be but why do I want to know that? it seems pretty boring really. I would like to know where I am though. That could be interesting.
All of a sudden, there was a loud scraping and a door i hadn't noticed before opened. a few seconds later, a woman walked in holding a clipboard looking very serious. she clearly needed cheering up so I shone her a smile that she wouldn't return. Undeterred, I carried on. "Why so serious? I asked her.
Ignoring me, she asked " my name is Dr Leland, do you remember anything about who you are?". I thought about it but, try as I might I couldn't remember my name. I couldn't remember where I lived. I don't remember anything.
"I cant... remember anything" I said weakly then after processing the horrifying realisation, I roared "WHY DON'T I REMEMBER?"
"calm down or I will have no choice but to have you restrained," shouted Leland. This surprised me because despite her serious look, she didn't look like much of a shouter. Giggling manically, I did as she said.
"You... are full of surprises, I think we will make very good friends" I told her. At this, she looked at me strangely but, apparently dismissed it.
"okay, well, as of yet we don't know who you are and since you don't know who you are either I will have to put you down as John Doe, by the way it may be worth telling you that you are currently in Arkham Asylum, so , its break time so how about you go and make some friends," informed and suggested Leland.
Motioning for me to follow her, she left the cell with the door open. Immediately, I leapt off the bed and raced out of the door to join Leland.
She was stood next to a rather small man who was wearing the same black and white uniform that I am. He had blonde messy hair and emerald green eyes. He looked at me and smiled a little.
"What are you smiling at?" I asked curious to know what he found so amusing. He just looked back at me, but then not at me. His eyes no longer appeared focused.
"Your hair is ... green" he replied in a way that didn't feel like he was answering me. It was more like a confused statement. His voice seemed far away yet he was right next to me. Kinda funny really.
"Is it really?" I asked genuinely curious. I hadn't really thought about my hair colour and in all honesty I don't remember it. well I do and don't at the same time. Its like it is in my head somewhere but i cant picture it, say it, think it or anything. It really is kind of funny.
"Yeah," he replied in the same absent minded tone.
Leland handed me a small make up mirror to take a look at the colour of my hair. True to the short peculiar man's word, my was indeed green. Toxic green. It looked amazing and I loved it. It made me feel unique. Different.
"Ooh, now that is good, I love it," I exclaimed, expressing my amazement at the colour of my hair. Leland appeared to be quite taken aback but, the tiny man held his hand out and introduced himself as Jimmy. I thought we would be friends for a long time.
