"(F/n), dear. We're here." My mom nudges me, waking me up.
I groggily open my eyes and look outside the window next to me.
So we're finally here. Naples, Italy.
Too tired to talk, I quietly take my backpack and stand, waiting for the people in the rows in front to leave.
Once we finally boarded off the plane, get our belongings, and pass the passport check, we head towards the exit. I follow my parents silently, still tired from my nap to marvel at the surroundings.
Upon exiting the building, there is a lot of people varying from passengers to taxis to police. I yawn. I should probably text my friends before I forget. Taking out my phone, I take a picture of a random area and send it to my group chat saying I didn't die on the plane.
"Hey! Need a taxi?" A man approaches us with a friendly smile. "It'll be faster than waiting for those guys." He points to the real taxis.
"Uhm, no thank you, we'll just wait at the taxi pick-up." My mother declines.
"Are you sure? I'll give you a deal of 150,000 lire." He pushes on. Both of my parents' faces light up at the word "deal" before trying to calculate the money into American dollars (or any currency of your choice). I sigh.
"Don't listen to him, let's just go wait for a real taxi."
"Hmm? Why not?" My father asks.
"150,000 lire is about 88 dollars. He's trying to rip us off." I reply, pointing at my phone screen. My parents stare at me in awe at my quick calculating before turning down the Italian man. I can feel his glare on my back as we head to the taxi pick-up.
There was a long line at the pick-up when we arrived. Whilst waiting, I take my phone out and read some manga, namely my favorite: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I'm rereading part 5: Vento Aureo, or Golden Wind.
Within 30 minutes, we managed to get a taxi and are now on our way to our new resident. I stare at the scenery as we pass restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. It truly is a beautiful place to be in.
The surroundings slowly turn suburban, as the number of buildings lessen and there are few people seen. We soon reach our destination and thank the driver. It was a small mansion in the less urban parts of Naples.
Yes, I admit, I am a rich kid and I do spend a decent amount of money. But it's mainly on things that don't appear as expensive as they really are. Then again, I'm still wasting money.
For the next few weeks, my family and I unpacked our belongings and set up the house. I was going to be starting school soon too, so when we weren't managing our new home, my parents, who had signed up for jobs here prior to our move, and I would be deciding on which school for me to attend.
~Timeskip~
The bell rings and I exit the school. I didn't start school just yet, today was almost like an open house where the student council of my grade had given me my schedule and toured me around the school.
I walk towards the court yard when a large bright flame bursts out right before I passed the edge of the building to my right. Stumbling backwards, I lean up against the wall.
What the hell was that? I thought.
Taking a few moments to calm down and catch my breath, I was about to continue when I hear "By the way, since you have that lighter, you're not smoking cigarettes, are you?"
All of my movements suddenly halt at that quote. Call me obsessive for remembering this, but didn't that small old man in Vento Aureo say something along those lines before dying?
