" someone save me from my mind "

third person's view

𝔗he sun rose on the old Mystic Falls cemetery, revealing the charred bodies of half-a-dozen teenagers lying amongst the graves, scattered out and mangled. It didn't take long for the police to arrive, and yellow CAUTION tape to surround the area. All of the running trails around the area were closed off as the CSIs arrived, taking photos of everything they could see.

As far as they could tell, there were no survivors.

Logan Fell, the local news reporter, and Elizabeth Forbes, the sheriff, stood to the side, watching the CSIs fuss over every upturned weed.

Logan scrunched his nose, his face pinching as one of the nearby CSIs poked at a corpse. "I've never smelled one this bad before," Logan said casually, earning a sour look from Liz.

"It tried to cover its tracks," Liz finally said, choosing to let Logan's ignorance go. She looked back around the crime scene, choosing to push the swirling thoughts of the teenagers families out of her mind.

"Are you sure?" Logan asked, turning to Liz. Both of them chose to keep the word vampire out of their mouths, or risk any nearby officers or investigators hearing.

"I'm positive," Liz nodded, pressing her lips together. "You only burn a corpse if you're trying to hide cause of death, and there are no shell casings," Liz finished, pointing around the crime scene.

"Do we know who the deceased are?" Logan asked, looking back towards the CSI who was taking samples of the corpse, swabbing charred skin onto a q-tip.

"The morgue will have to check their dental records," Liz answered, making Logan once again scrunch up his nose. Even though he had spent most of his adult life reporting on the many animal attacks of Mystic Falls, he really didn't have the stomach for it.

"What story should I run?" Logan asked quietly, clearing his throat and narrowing his eyes at his camera crew, which was huddled to the side, watching with wide eyes. "Another animal attack?"

Liz shook her head, remembering that so far there had been three 'animal attacks' since the beginning of the school year. "No, say it was a drug deal gone bad. It's not too big a stretch," Liz said, glancing towards the empty beer bottles paired with nearly empty bags of cannabis.

Logan nodded faithfully just before a beat cop approached the two, fiddling with an ID badge in his hands. His expression was hesitant until Liz beckoned him over, prompting him to hand the ID to the sheriff. "I found this in a bush about ten yards away," the cop said, glancing down at the ID nervously.
