AFTER HOURS
by Anne SylvesterWARNING:
The stunts performed by our main character were done by a professional. By warning you of this, the author has absolved herself from any guilt should you choose to follow after Althea.
Read at your own risk.
EXCERPT:
"I'm an emotionally dependent and slightly neurotic young woman that wants to find love!" She flattened her face against the bowl and peered at little Nemo. "Do you think I'll ever fall in love?" There was a slight cough of laughter and when she turned she wanted to die on the spot.
"Were you just talking to my fish?"
"...Maybe."
...
Althea is a sheltered bookworm determined to fall in love with her coworker Malcolm by the end of the summer. The thing is, all of her knowledge on romance comes from what she's read or watched in movies.
Needless to say—
expect absolute disaster.NOTE: This story is kind of a big joke as it's me (hello, I'm the author) poking fun at some of the predictable cliches that are present in some of my favourite romantic comedies. Don't take it too seriously if certain plot points are a little bit exaggerated as that's the point of the story. It's not necessarily a satire so much as it is a sort of parody and gigantic love letter to the romantic comedy genre (and I'm not talking about trashy Hallmark movies I'm talking about the big fish...big cahunas...classics y'know?)
My fav romantic comedies are Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally... (also I would argue that pride and prejudice is also a bit of a romantic comedy/social commentary as well so fight me on that but I will win) and this story will thus be a parody of those three
