"That's too much black you're putting on my eye."
"SHUT UP. I'm putting a tasteful amount." Humming, Althea pulled back to peer at the pretty smoky eye she'd created for Dana's brilliant blue eyes. "Beautiful."
"Do they always take this long?" She heard Nick ask.
"Pretty much," Charlie laughed. "Don't even get up until you see them spray that weird shit on their face."
"Oh. Okay," Nick replied, voice amused. Thankful that her back was turned to him, Althea let herself smile at both of their expenses.
"When am I gonna get my makeup done?" Charlie called out to the two girls, his National Geographic magazine abandoned on the dorm room floor as he got up to stretch. Althea laughed at him as he adjusted his navy blue shirt and dark jeans.
"You're beautiful just the way you are." Smiling, he rolled his eyes at Althea and rubbed at his jaw as he peered at the two girls. Althea caught Nick's eyes and saw the slight smile on his face.
When they'd finished their shift together and gotten into Nick's car towards Dana's condo apartment, Althea had been slightly worried that Nick wouldn't be able to properly fit in with her friends. She knew how slightly odd both Dana and Charlie were, and by extension herself as well. If he thought that her friends were weird, then there could be no doubt that he'd think she had a few screws loose as well.
If he did think that, he did an excellent job of not showing it.
"You look pretty—you both do."
"Yeah, your highlight is popping." Charlie added. Nick snorted in amusement.
"Thanks, Charlie. Is that the only make up term you know?"
"Shut up, without Althea you'd have looked like a raccoon."
"No lies detected there," Althea agreed as Dana pouted. Rolling his eyes, Charlie wrapped an arm around her slim shoulders in a surprisingly sweet gesture at comfort.
"I'm sorry. Can we go now?" Dana tried to hide her smile, but Althea saw it and smiled at the two of her friends. They were like siblings, always bickering and joking in the same breath.
Althea nodded as she reached for her setting spray, first spraying it on herself before going for Dana. For a girl with money to spare, she really didn't know much in the makeup department except the basics. And for the most part, Althea usually depended on a little concealer and mascara for her day to day. That being said, applying makeup wasn't the first thing that ran through her mind whenever she woke up late for work or school. She only ever really whipped out her eye shadow brushes and contour for moments that she wanted to impress.
"I didn't know you owned clothes like these," Nick murmured, amused as he took in the gold coloured silk tank top that she'd borrowed from Dana.
"I don't," she snorted. "I borrowed this from Dana." She was thankful for the padded bra she wore underneath, the night was chilly and Althea wasn't interested in getting leered at.
