Chapter 8
Ava
I slip into my seat with a sigh. I relax into the chair, my mood good, and watch as Mr. Scott shuffle papers around on his desk. His eyes flick to me, and then to his papers. Her movements are slightly nervous, but he's behaving better than most. I chuckle under my breath, as I continue watching him.
"Hey Charlotte!" Comes a chirpy voice next to me. My amusement falters, and I release another sigh. This one is of annoyance. I flick my eyes to Jessica, and then to Mr. Scott whose greeting students. I haven't paid him back for this current annoyance. Maybe I should come up with ways of torture that will allow him to complete his job for me but cause him enough pain. Physical pain might be too dangerous, maybe a broken finger or two is alright. Mental pain though, hm, I need his mind, but a soft touch of some emotional pain...I nod.
"Charlotte?" I turn towards Jessica and force a practiced smile.
"Hi Jessica." She grins and bobs her head.
"I missed you the other day. You know. Did something happen?" Her eyes grow worried and regretful.
"I know I'm a bit much sometimes, and I can talk a lot. But I hope I wasn't the cause of you running off like that. If so, I'm very sorry Charlotte. I never meant to trouble you." I watch in horrified fascination as her eyes glistens ad her chin begins to wobble.
Feeling disturbed by the expressive and emotional thing at my side, I lean away in disgust.
Jessica leans in closer, her wobbling chin pointed my way.
"I hope you'll still be my friend. And the guys I showed you, they're really nice too. If it was Chase that scared you, I swear he is one of THEE must nicest people I know. He would never harm you or anything. But if It really was me and freaked you out with my blabbering and-"
"Its fine." I cut in quickly, hoping to stop her waving and exaggerated hand movements. I was seconds away from clocking her in her mouth.
"It wasn't anyone, I just wasn't feeling too well." I say evenly, looking away from the wide-eyed female.
How do people go longer than a minute in her presence without murdering her? How? I silently whisper a reluctant thank you to the suppressive poison flowing in my veins.
'Really?" She asks, her tears now flowing down her cheeks. I lean away further.
"Really." I answer, with a pathetic and wobbly, faux, smile.
"Alright class, let's begin." Mr. Scott clears his throat, his eyes falling on everyone but me now. I turn away completely from Jessica, hoping she gets the hint that I would want to listen to the teacher, only to be disappointed by the sound of her whispering voice.
"Hey Charlotte. I really would like to get to know you. I don't really know much about you, but you seem pretty amazing. Do you want to go to a birthday party tomorrow night? It's at Jaden's. It'll be really fun."
The word no was at the tip of my tongue. Before the words could tumble out of my mouth she goes on.
"It'll be so much fun, really. I promise. I'll introduce you to Nila, you know my best friend I told you about. And you know I could officially introduce to the guys. Giovanni, Jaden of course, since its his house, and Liam and Chase."
My mouth closes.
"Today's assignment is another one that'll be done with you desk partner..." I zone out, scowling at Mr. Scott relaxing posture. His eyes still aren't anywhere one me, or in my direction. Almost as if he's ignoring me, while dealing out what would no doubt be a torturous assignment.
