Chapter 10

Chase

I miss Charlotte's exit. Jennifer hangs off my neck, her large and beautiful eyes watch me, as her lips reaches for mines. Unwilling to embarrass her with my reluctance, I allow the kiss. I sigh into her mouth. Jennifer mistakes it for a sigh of pleasure. It wasn't.

I subtly lean back, eyeing the woman before me, while being jostled by the crowd. Our bodies press against each other, and Jennifer grins widely. She knew the game we played. And she knew it well.

"Aw baby. I missed you like crazy these past few months." She nuzzles my chin, and I let her, forgotten in my familiarity, with the woman I had spent years attached too. The woman that I considered marriage and children with. A model-esque woman that my father approved of.

Jennifer Bailey, was everything a man like me, would want. Smart, beautiful, caring, and bitchy in ways that led to hot sex. She was everything I fell for and fell hard.

A flash of glaring hazel eyes, and a scowling face interrupts my thoughts, and I shiver. Thinking she was the cause; Jennifer bites her lip suggestively.

"Come on birthday boy. We been apart for too long, how about a dance?" I clutch her arms, ready to deny her subtly, but unsure how I could go about it. I didn't want a Jennifer melt down tonight. I wasn't willing to yell, and argue, and to fall into bed with her, with apologies on my lips. Not tonight. Tonight, was different. I eye Jen. Our relationship was different. Here she was like a million times before, after a breakup, acting as if our fight and breakup was an oopsie we made, and we should rekindle our passionate love. Everything In the past was too be forgotten, like it has always been between us.

I don't want this anymore.

Charlotte invades my mind again, and I gain a voice. Before I could speak, Jess comes to the rescue.

"Oh Jen! Your back in the city. Why didn't you tell me?" Jessica tugs on her cousin's elbow, forcing Jen to untangle her arms from around my neck. Jessica tugs her into her arms with a worried glance my way, embracing her cousin in a hug.

I sigh, my body releasing tension that I didn't realize was present.

"How could you not come see your favorite cousin." Jessica's shouts, surely barely being heard over the bass of the music.

I don't hear Jen's response; I'm already turning away. I nudge Jaden.

"I'm going to get something to drink."

Jaden smirks. "Don't worry, I'll distract the witch." I frown disapprovingly at Jaden's insult, but keep quiet, not bothering to argue tonight.

I head towards the kitchen, being stopped a few times to receive happy birthdays, but I always keep moving, unwilling to be found by Jennifer. I also find myself looking in between bodies, trying to spot a grouchy looking woman, with, 'I hate Chase,' written on her face.

I smile.

I dodge the mass of people that stand around in the kitchen next to the jugs of alcohol. The drink supervisors, not doing much supervising, sit back and entertain a couple of girls.

Not feeling all that thirsty anymore, I sigh, turning to look at the way I came. I can see Jen searching the crowd, her long legs in her tall heels making it easier for her. I glance away, before heading to the door that leads outside. I eye the pool and the few people lurking in it, but I don't linger, wanting to avoid being caught by Jennifer.
