Chapter 13
Ava
I blink the sweat that finally began to run rivers into my eyes. It was Sunday afternoon, the sun hot and bright, raining its lights on this already shining city.
I had been running since eight this morning. After leaving Mr. Scott's, I had found myself in a renewed state of action. I had tried to sleep, but instead closed my eyes and indulged in a restless fit. It was as if now that I realized what my confliction was towards Chase Montgomery, it opened the bottled to lustful thoughts. He was no longer a passing thought but becoming a fixation.
I blow out a breath of annoyance as pain sings through my veins and my stomach does flips. I push my legs harder, moving faster towards the center of the city.
I push on for another thirty minutes feeling another trickle of sweat. I break out a sigh. I should have gone through my fighting forms instead, it tends to be more strenuous, but I had hoped that running would be equally as satisfying.
This form of exercise was turning out to be a waste.
With a sigh, I slow my steps. The streets of Springville were cleared of pollutants and people. There were only a few people that passed by, all eyeing me and smiling, as they either also jogged by, or strolled carefree down the street.
Majority of them, I believe were students. I slow to a stop, and control my breath instantly, ignoring the fliting thoughts of Chase Montgomery.
The soft whine of a violin reaches my ears. Curiously, I walk forward, towards the haunting sound. In just a few steps I am met, with a door, tilted open, as if by accident, and a large, glassed window, blinds rolled up and exposing the large interior.
On the glass, in white and curled, italic words were, "Dance With Me." As if to emphasize, a twirling body, comes into view as the soft violin is followed by an equally sounding piano melody. I watch the woman, shift on expert feet, in an all-black affair, with startingly white dancing shoes.
Her hair is buned low, and tight. Not a hair, out of place as she flings her limbs elegantly, to the beat of the music. I'm entranced by her as she spins in circles, her once serious face, transforming into a slow and content smile.
Her body pulse in exotic motions, matching step for step with an imaginary partner in the next sequence of movements. Her mouth widens, and I furrow my brows as I see the joy on her face, despite the hauntingly sad song.
I feel my chest fill with emotions, that more matched the song, and my vision flickers. I squint, as I try to catch what seems to flit across my gaze.
I almost hear her laughter. Soft and innocently pure. I hear a deeper laugh, one ringing out a sound soft and tinkling. Older. I hear more laughter, much deeper, a man's. I continue to look through the glass, my brows furrowed with confusion, as I try to make out the sounds
My chest tightens, and my head thumps in pain once, twice, three time, before a memory unlocks its self, and throws me spinning just as fast as the dancing woman.
"You were so good girls. I'm so proud of you."
"Next time I'll be on stage with you two. How about it?" A giggle sounds. So joyful and excited.
"Daddy, you can't. Its girls only." I speak. The giggle is mine. Next to me sounds another giggle sounds, louder than usual, because she was healthier than before.
I turn and meet hazel eyes.
"That was so much fun Ava. You did very good."
"You did very good too Emma! Mrs. Lana, says that we'll dance in another show next time soon."
