I was suddenly pushed back into a large boulder. I could feel the rumbles shaking the ground, probably not from the running of the newborns, but from the growls they emanated. I could barely see a thing, only the glints of the white skin that seemed to float around the night like ghosts. I shook so badly I could barely stand on my legs, but I couldn’t seem to move either way, for I was paralyzed with fear.
Shouts and screams filled the air, and I feared that they would be heard from town. We weren’t far enough away. I knew they didn’t expect this many, by the sounds of it there were hundreds, but there was probably only as many as before. From Jasper’s story, they like to fight each other.
Tears of metal sounded the air next, making me whimper. I had no way of knowing who was getting torn apart. Abruptly a fire the size of the pack of wolves lit the night with wicked orange flames that turned purple sending up thick columns of smoke whenever a vampire piece was added. I used the new light to see what was going on around me, immediately searching out Edward.
I expected him to be right in front of me, but to my surprise he was no-where in sight.
“Edward?” I whispered, scared of drawing attention to myself. Esme and Carlisle stood in front of me, but still a ways away. They worked together, defeating four at a time and moving on. The crowd of vampires was so thick I wouldn’t be able to figure out where to start.
I noticed two wolves I couldn’t identify due to poor light rushing to help Emmett who seemed to be having serious fun. He tore off both arms of a male and then the head. Alice danced around one until they lost sight of her. She ended up bouncing down from a tree and ripping his head off. My heart rate sky rocketed when I saw one out of the corner of my eye, completely still and focused. She had long blonde hair, bright crimson eyes and was crouched. Looking around I noticed that everyone was occupied with several vampires. My eyes wandered back to the girl who was watching me like I was her prey…well, technically I was. Slowly she stocked towards me and I had a feeling that if I moved, she would make it quicker.
With nothing left to lose I decided to try the speech that Edward had tried on the other newborns that destroyed the house.
“Listen,” she growled at me as I spoke, “you don’t have to do this. You’ll be killed either way,”
“But at least I get the victory of killing you, a pathetic, weak, worthless human.” She spat, her voice high and musical.
“Please…please don’t.” I begged, pressing my back against the wall of the boulder. A smirk formed across her face as she advanced so that she was right in front of me. I looked away, dreading what I knew would come next. The newborns seemed to be taking over, making it hard on our side. Every person had a set of young vampires; no one was able to get this one. Again panic set in, but not for my demise. Edward was still missing. Abruptly on the fringe of the trees I noticed Laurent and Irina standing, observing the crowd of engaged fighting.
I refused to look up and into the red crimson eyes of the blonde girl who was about to kill me. I wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of my fear. From behind me I head growls, I was sure those belonged to more of the pack that fought behind the boulder.
A touch on my shoulder alerted me to the newborn in front of me. Her hand was not the gentle, cool, comforting touch I had grown to know, but a cold, hard and stone grasp that easily ripped through my clothes.
A dizzy spell easily spread over me, my heart raced as she brought her lips closer to my neck.
“Edward…” I whispered as she touched me. Just as I felt the edge of her teeth against my flesh, someone tore her away. My eyes flew open and I ran as fast as I could out of the clearing. Unfortunately I was only human and the vampire that pulled the blonde off of me was now pinning my body to the ground.
