The table on my deck was a rectangle. Cam and I sat on one side and my mom and dad sat on the other. My dad of course was questioning Cameron about everything. It all seemed to be going fine until something hit me. His age. I don’t know how they’d like their 15 year old daughter dating a 19 year old. I excused myself to the bathroom to ask text Lauren and ask what to do. She immediately responded “just explain that it’s better than dating an immature guy. I’m sure Cam will help explain too.” I took a deep breath and walked back outside. Cameron was explaining Magcon, and why they left and all of that stuff to my parents. He was also talking about him and Nash’s new acting company. He talked about his family, and where they lived. I thought I was going to survive the dinner without the age question, until my dad finally asked, “How old are you son?” Cameron answered very calmly, saying “19.” My dad seemed surprised but I couldn’t read his expression. “And you want to take my 15 year old daughter out?” I looked down at my lap. My mom interrupted and said “Blake!” Cameron answered “um, yes sir. Your daughter, she is an amazing girl. I will no doubt take care of her.” I smiled because of how sweet he was acting. My dad though just shot back “Well, in my opinion it’s an extreme age difference.” I shot my father a look to show him how upset I was but he didn’t seem to care. My mom tried to help by saying “Blake, can’t you tell Cameron is a wonderful young man? Haven’t you noticed how happy y/n has been the past two weeks?” Cameron looked at my dad right in the eyes and said “Look sir. y/n isn’t even my girlfriend yet. All I wanted was your approval to take her on a nice date tomorrow in the city. If you think I’m going to try to make any sort of move, than that’s wrong. I’m not that type of person. I know that your daughter is a few years younger than me and I’m gonna respect that.” My dad looked furious that someone actually told him off. My eyes filled with tears. I may never get to see Cameron again because of my stubborn dad. I ran inside and up to my room. I sat there for 10 minutes just thinking, when someone knocked on my door. “come in.” I said and Cameron poked his head in.
He came in and shut the door behind him. He sat down next to me on my bed and put his arm around me. I was still choked up so all I could say was “I’m sorry.” Cameron rubbed my back. “It’s not your fault. I knew the question was coming. I just didn’t know it would be so hard to answer.” I looked at him and asked “What happened after I left?” Cameron said “well your dad said he needed to talk to your mom alone, and I said I better go check on you so your mom showed me where your room was.” My eyes started to fill with tears again. “I didn’t know this was going to happen. I guess my dad just doesn’t want his only child to grow up.” Cameron just continued to sit there with his arm around me, making me feel so safe.
There was another knock on the door about 15 minutes later. I heard my mom’s voice say “it’s just me.” She poked her head in and said that my dad wanted to talk to us downstairs. I took a deep breath. Cameron stood up and held his hand out to me. I grabbed it and stood up. We walked down the stairs and my dad was sitting in a chair in the living room. We sat on the couch across from it. “I apologize for my behavior before. I realized that the way you stood up for y/n and fought for her is just the type of guy I want to have my daughter. You are an amazing young man and I know you will treat y/n right” Cameron’s face light up and he said “Thank you sir. I won’t disappoint you.” My dad interrupted him and said “call me Blake, not sir.” Cameron pulled out his phone to check the time and I saw messages from Nash checking up on him. Their friendship was so cute. My mom asked Cameron what time he needed to leave and he said 8:30. It was only 7:30 though. Cameron and I walked upstairs and hung out in my room. With the door opened though of course. He saw my desk and said “this is where you always facetime me from?!” I laughed and said “yes!” It was so nice to finally be with him in person. We chilled and talked about a lot. Before we knew it, it was 8:30. Cameron stood up and said “I have to go.” I stood up too and looked at him with an upset expression. Cameron laughed and said “y/n! We’re seeing eachother tomorrow! Don’t be sad!” I laughed too. I walked him downstairs and on his way out thanked my parents again. We stepped out onto my front porch and saw a tiny Prius in my driveway. “Is that yours?” I asked while laughing. Cameron started laughing too and said “I know, it’s a rental,” it was the ugliest, car I had ever seen and it was so tiny, it looked like a car a teenage girl would drive. “So should I pick you up tomorrow?” I paused and then said “sure. What time?” He answered saying “10, I’ll pick you up at 10 in my girl mobile.” I started laughing. He hugged me tightly and then quickly kissed me on the cheek. “sorry again for my dad. But thank you for proving him wrong.” I said to him. “Anything I said before wasn’t a lie.” I smiled and blushed. “You’re blushing! Oooh!” He shouted. “Shut up Cam!” I said playfully hitting him. He got in his car and said “10am! Be ready beautiful.” I giggled and waved as he drove down the street and left. God I loved him.
