joba and matt had been together for a week and they had seen each other three times in that span. the two other times besides their date, they had gone to matt's house where the pair just watched breaking bad and joba would give matt a blowjob or two. other than a few brief exchanges, they didn't speak much during their time together but joba dismissed it as both of them being tired. it bothered joba that the two couldn't engage in conversation that wasn't about sex or breaking bad but he never brought it up to matt; he didn't want to upset him. he told romil though, and his best friend was shocked to hear that matthew champion was not speaking. romil said he usually couldn't keep his mouth shut. "maybe he's just nervous." joba suggested.

"matt? nervous?" romil scoffed. "unlikely, but maybe. maybe you're just a game changer for him." he added, more seriously. joba looked at him from the other side of the bed. romil inched closer to the taller boy. "have y'all done anything crazy yet?" he whispered.

joba shrugged. "i've sucked his dick a few times."

"ooooh!" romil yelled. joba looked down bashfully and shrugged. "it's no big deal."

"has he ever sucked you off?" romil said.

joba shook his head. "i'm too nervous." he said truthfully.

"why! is his dick bigger than yours?" the smaller boy laughed.

"no, actually," joba chuckled, "i- i dunno i feel like it's gonna escalate if i let him.. y'know.. and i don't want to have full on 'dick-in-ass' sex yet, you know what i mean?"

"yeah." romil shrugged. "take your time, jobe, and don't let him force you into anything."

"of course." joba smiled. romil ruffled the blond's greasy locks and leaned back onto his pillows. "do you love him?" he asked quietly. joba's heart skipped a beat and his breath caught in his throat. truthfully, he thought it was too soon to tell, but if he was judging by what he had seen with people in other relationships people usually were sure about whether or not they loved each other or not. he always felt comfortable and safe and wanted when he was around matt and he loved talking to him and being around him...

"yeah." joba said. "i think so."

"aww." romil pouted, "lil joba! he's in love!" joba blushed and glanced at the time on his phone. he popped by romil's fast just to have dinner but it was a school night and he wanted to be home before 10:30 and it was already 10:15. "i've gotta bounce. i'll see you later, romil." joba said as he gathered his things and shoved them into his bag.

"see ya, joba. text me if you need anything." romil said loudly as he and joba high-fived and joba jogged out to his truck

joba tiptoed into his bedroom being careful as to not wake lilly. he sat down on his bed and quietly sighed. he peeled his shirt off and as he tossed his jeans aside and pulled on a pair of flannel bottoms, his sister coughed and rustled around in bed. "joba?" she whispered. she was the only one in her family that used his nickname since she was the one to give it to him.

"yeah?" joba replied, sitting at the foot of his bed.

"can we talk?" he heard his little sister sit up in her bed. "i miss you."

"of course, lil. what's up." joba plugged in a small lava lamp on his dresser and sat down on his sister's bed. she leaned her head on joba's shoulder and murmured something about how they never speak anymore. "i miss when we were little." she said at a normal volume, "when we'd play that spy game and run around the complex."

"that was fun." joba agreed. "my favorite game was the one where we'd lay on the floor and jump over each other and try to grab the other's ankles to make them fall." he laughed at the memory of himself faceplanting into the coffee table and nearly breaking his nose.

"i miss hanging out with you." lilly said quietly. "can we go for dinner tomorrow? and we each bring one of our friends? i wanna see romil again."

"do you actually want to hang out with me or do you just want to see romil?" joba chuckled. lilly laughed and swatted him on the arm. lilly and romil were close too and romil was like a second big brother to her. romil and his sister along with joba and lilly would terrorize the complex; every adult that lived there was thoroughly annoyed by them by the end of each day. joba hadn't thought about his childhood for a long while- he tried not to. nothing extremely traumatic occurred that made it hard for joba to think about, but he just believed that getting caught up in the past was an easy distraction and he had too many responsibilities at this point to be daydreaming about his childhood.

"who's that guy that was over on halloween?" lilly asked.

"matt?" joba replied. he knew lilly was going to ask who he was and he wasn't sure if he was ready to tell her that he was going out with matt- she may tell their parents, who were not very accepting, about it without thinking twice. joba decided he couldn't risk that."he's a new friend."

"he's kinda cute." lilly giggled.

"he's a senior in high school." joba laughed.

"i know, but still."

"okay. if you say so." joba said ad he stood up and kissed his sister on the head before climbing back into bed. "i'll text romil tomorrow about our dinner date. i'll tell him to bring his sister." he said as he pulled the blankets over him."

"okay. goodnight, joba." lilly yawned.

"night, lil."

joba stayed up for at least 3 more hours texting matt about their childhoods. he learned that matt's mom had been addicted to crack for the better part of his childhood, but she was recovering now and that his dad was rarely home because of his work out of state. matt said he wasn't entirely convinced that his father was being truthful about the nature of the 'work', but when his dad came home he always brought matt generous gifts like shoes and name brand hoodies or new skate decks. joba appreciated matt opening up to him and their conversation hoaxed any doubts about matt's trust in joba away; he made it apparent that not everybody knew about his parents and that he didn't want many people to know. joba told him a little bit about his deadbeat mom, but didn't care to make it into something worth matt feeling bad over. the raven-haired boy still expressed concern nonetheless. the conversation came to a close when matt texted,

matt: goodnight jobie i love you. sleep well baby.

joba smiled to himself as he replied.

joba: goodnight matty. i love you too
