Chapter Fourteen

We arrive at the hospital a little after three. I slowly get out of the car and walk in with Harry.

"Babe, you okay? You seem a little shaky." He puts his arm around my waist.

"I'm fine. Just nervous." We walk into the building and I see my Dad right away.

"Dad! What's going on? Have they figured it out yet?" I walk over to see him crying.

"Dad?" I put my hand on his shoulder. He was shaking. 

"Your sister wants to see you. She'll tell you everything." He sends me towards a room at the far end of a hall. I walk into the room.

"Jessie?" I find my sister laying on the hospital bed, half asleep.

"Beth. You made it!" She smiles slightly.

"Jessica, what's wrong?" I sit down with Harry on her bed.

"Didn't Daddy tell you?" She had the sweetest face, especially when she was sick.

"No. Daddy was crying. Sweety what's going on?" 

"Harry! Where's everybody else? Where's Zayn?" She smiles at Harry.

"They're at home, Jess. So what's going on with you?" He smiles and ruffles her hair.

"I don't like talking about it . . . it makes me sad." She looks at the sheets covering her body.

"What is it? You can tell us." I look into her eyes.

"Just make Daddy tell you." She rolls over and pretends to be asleep. I sigh and walk out to my Dad.

"Dad? What is going on?" I look at him. He had stopped crying but his eyes were blood shot.

"I don't know how to say it. It isn't real. This can't be happening to my little baby." He looks at the floor.

"Dad, please tell us. It isn't going to make anything better by holding it in." I rub his back gently.

"Jess..she has Leukemia."

I feel the room grow dark and before I know it I'm on the ground.
