Maya's POV:

I drive to my house. I run inside put on my bikini and grab my board. I'm going to that beach bash. I make my way down the block to the beach. Yes we live a mile from the beach so I can just walk.

I get there and the completion has already started. There is people everywhere cheering, drinking, dancing. But I just sit in the sand. This competition was for me. I wanted to win it. I can say because Bryce would notice me. But that's not just it. I would be able to say I won something.

I watch people dance from my spot in the sand.

"Hey." I look up to see the perfectly toned body of the one and only Bryce. He has a beer in his hand.

"Under age drinking is illegal." I state

"I'm not underaged, I'm nineteen."

"Your supposed to be twenty one." I clarify

"Ok miss know it all. Why aren't you out there on the waves?" I look over at my limp board laying in the sand. He sits down next to me.

"I got here to late. Why aren't you out there."

"Because somebody had to get their tire popped and needed help."

"Oh really? Well you didn't have to help her?"

"I'm a gentleman I help out stranded ladies."

"Huh, only when you want to get in their pants." I retort

He laughs "are you saying I want to get in your pants?"

Uh this is weird. I just roll my eyes at him. "So how are you a senior and nineteen?" I ask changing the subject.

"Isn't every senior nineteen?" He asks smirking

"No, I'm seventeen."

"Oh well I was held back. But your about to be eighteen. In two weeks."

Wait did he just say two weeks? How did he know that!?!

"How did you know that?"

"Do you want the romantic answer or the truth." He asks playfully

"This isn't supposed to be romantic so I want the truth."

"I hear your boyfriend talking to his friends about everything he was going to do to you when you finally turn eighteen in two weeks."

Wow, this is not cool. Vance is such a guy.

"Uh, well, was this one of those times you had to hold yourself back from beating him up?"

He laughs lightly "yeah, no guy should talk about a girl like that."

"Right they should go with your way and just do it and get it over with?" I ask laughing

"Well if your gonna put it like that."

We pause and for a moment everything was perfect.

"You wanna dance?" He asks

"Uh, I'm not a dancer, especially not to this kind of music." I say

"Oh this music will change, by the next song. It will be slow music next."

"How do you know." I ask

"Just trust me."

"You've given me no reason to!" I say laughing

"I fixed your car tire! Isn't that enough?"

He ask smirking.

Then the song changed to I Can't Help Falling In Love With You By: Elvis Presley

"See I told you." He says

"I will never doubt you again!" I say smiling

"So are we gonna dance now?"

He just asked me to dance. My heart is pounding. Play it cool Maya.

"Yeah we can."

He takes my hand and pulls me up. I wrap my arms around his neck and he puts his hands around my bare waste and we sway back and fourth to the music.

The song stops. "Your a good dancer." I say

"Yeah well you don't have two left feet either." He says smirking.

I roll my eyes

"You want something to drink?"

"Sure" he throws me a beer and I gladly take it.

It starts to get dark and the completion ends. People get out of the water.

"You wanna go catch some waves?" He asks

"It's dark."

"Right, your scared. That's ok. I'll just take someone else."

"I'm not scared."

"Prove it."

"Fine." I grab my board and run into the water. The waters calm. He follows me out on his board.

"We are going to have to go way out there to get any waves.

"Ok! I'll race you!" I exclaim

"Your on!"

"Ready set Go!" And I start paddling.

We make our way far out. The moon our only lighting and the beach light a glow in the distance.

I stop. "Wow" I say looking at the moon lit water horizon.

He paddles up next to me. "It's beautiful."

"I've never been out this far."

"You haven't lived."

"I don't ever want to leave."

"You want to play a game?" He asks enthusiastically

"Sure" I say laughing.

"Let's see who can stand on a still board the longest!" He exclaims

"Your such an child!" I laugh

"So you can't do it?"

"Oh no I can do it." I slowly pull myself to my knees on my board then to my feet. My board wobbles. But I hold it steady.

"See." I say

"Good job." He stands to his feet to.

We just stare at each other writing for the other to fall.

I lose my balance a bit but stay standing.

"The key is to keep your legs straight up and locked, Maya." He informs me.

I straighten my legs and lock them, when I do I lose my balance for good and go plummeting into the deep, dark water.

With in an instant strong arms are pulling me out of the water. He sits me in his board facing him. Our legs touch and our eyes lock. He moves a stray piece of wet hair out of my eyes.

"You need to be more careful."

We don't break our eye contact, we just sit there. He leans in a bit. For a moment I think he is going to kiss me. But he thinks other wise.

"We better get back."He states. With those little words my heart breaks.

"Yeah I guess we should. I say hopping back on my board and paddling to the shore.
