The problem with "Good" Hair🙄

I know I haven't updated this book since April but honestly, I didn't know what else to write about but now I'm back and this is going to be the last chapter??

I got this idea from Lorraine Gold's natural hair book (her book is 'Natural Hair Guide' by @cremedelaoreo). She also has a youtube channel which is Lorraine Gold.

Now that that's out the way, today our topic is "Good" hair. What is good hair? Is it loose curly 'mixed girl' hair? or is it simply having healthy hair?

In 2017, I noticed on different Instagram posts of girls (not only mixed) with 3a-3c type hair with comments like:

"oh you got that 'good' hair"

"I wish my hair wasn't nappy"

"I wish i had ur hair type"

I would also see boys online videos talking about how they want a light-skinned girl with 'good hair' whatever that means. They would talk about how they think lightskins are better because they got 'good hair' that is real and that darkskins only wear 'fake hair' to hide their naps. But this lightskin/darkskin issue is a whole nother topic in itself. When they say they want a girl with long, curly hair they don't mean the 'nappy' and 'ugly' type 4 hair that can't even grow. They mean a girl with long silky straight hair or type 2 and 3 hair. All of this is making a darker skinned girl with 4c hair feel as if she was born with all the wrong features (especially if she is not 'thick').

I'm sorry last time I checked healthy hair was good hair. Type 4 can grow. There is nothing wrong with having short hair because not everyone likes having long hair. Some people don't even have hair.

The problem with using the term 'good hair' to only describe 'mixed' hair is making a black girl with coarser hair feel insecure about her hair. You are degrading all the girls who don't have 3a-3c hair. The stereotype that only mixed girls have type 3 hair is extremely untrue.

Black people especially black girls have gone through so much already and they do not need any more things to feel insecure about. I have seen so many comments, posts, and memes degrading black girls it's not even funny. According to what I've seen black girls are fat, ugly, bald-headed, ratchet, ghetto, smelly, stupid, wear weaves because they wanna be white, manly, aggressive, just to name few but the list can go on and on.

If you think that light-skinned mixed girls with type 1-3 hair with colored eyes are better than fully black girls with type 4 hair and darker skin then you have that slave mentality. There are too many ridiculous factors that are dividing the black community (Skin Tone, Hair Type, Body Type, etc.)

My point IS that good hair is healthy hair whether it's straight or coarse, long or short, black or red, it DOES NOT matter as long as you are taking care of your hair in the way that you should.

Tell me what you guys think about the whole good hair vs bad hair thing or even the colorism issue or what features a black girl has to have in order to be seen as 'beautiful'.
