So I transitioned for 7 months and I HATED it so much. I don't think I've ever hated my hair so much until I was in the transitioning stage. It takes a lot of work but the end goal is worth it, Trust me. You have to be ready physically and mentally.

❣️Have a reason(s) why you want to go natural so that you have something to motivate and get you through this stage

What motivated me during this stage was seeing all these natural hair YouTubers with their long curls and big hair and I just ugh😭

❣️Set a goal, ie: transition for 10 months and big chop or transition for 2 years

This goal might change over time. At first, I wanted to transition for 15-18 months, then that changed to a year, which then changed to 10 months and eventually I just cut everything off at 7 months.(you can tell I'm really impatient). I looked at so many hair journeys and Big chop videos on Youtube to give me an idea of exactly when I wanted to cut those relaxed ends off.

❣️Cut off the heat, if you can let your hair air dry

I stopped straightening my hair and just blow dried it during my transition.

❣️Find a go-to low manipulation hairstyle (styles that keep ur ends tucked away) but also try out some natural hairstyles such as twist outs, perm rod sets, flat twist outs. Protective styling helps, too.

My go-to hairstyles were buns with flat twists and just regular buns. I didn't try out a lot of natural hairstyles while transitioning so I ended up having a hard time finding a hairstyle to do when I big chopped.

❣️Find a regimen that works for you

❣️Try out different hair products but don't become a product junkie

❣️DEEP CONDITION EVERY WEEK, do hot oil treatments, protein treatments every 4-6 weeks according to NaturallyCurly but I recommend checking your hair porosity first.

Personally, I didn't deep condition a lot (I know I know don't come for me I'm lazy) but now that I'm fully natural I'm trying to get into the habit of doing that

❣️Get Trims

❣️Get a deep conditioner, leave in conditioner, wide tooth comb, gel, an oil(olive, grapeseed, coconut, etc.) to seal in moisture, non-sulfate shampoo and a conditioner. Deep conditioning thermal cap or those hair dryer bonnet attachment thingies and a spray bottle is recommended. Co-washes are optional imo

❣️DETANGLE

I find it funny how the comb would go right through my natural hair and get stuck once it got to the relaxed par. After I cut my hair, my curls were the hardest thing to comb through smhh

❣️Section hair while washing and air dry with a t-shirt

I did this like twice tbh💀My hair is too short and thick to section rn.

❣️BE GENTLE, where your natural hair and the relaxed ends meet is called the line of demarcation, this is the most fragile part of your hair and breakage occurs a lot at this part

My hair broke off A LOT while transitioning like the amount of hair I shed now is NOTHING compared to back then. I would my fingers through ma hair and like 20 strands would come out.

✨                                                                                                                                                                            ✨

OK, so that's it. Next Chapter, I'm thinking of doing hair porosity, low manipulation and protective hairstyles, OR maybe hair typing and I could give examples of YouTubers with that hair type. 💞Comment your hair type and/or porosity.💞
