Protective styling is used to protect the ends of your hair and decrease the daily amount of manipulation and breakage. Protective styles are especially prevalent in the winter because of the cold, harsh temperatures that dry out our hair and cause more breakage.
Here are some protective styles:
💞Single Braids. These are the ones I have in right now and are my second favorite protective style
💞Twists. I haven't done these for the LONGEST time but I used to do them ALL THE TIME in seventh grade, everyone knew me for my twists. This protective hairstyle is my third favorite right now
^^These are called Senegalese Twists!!
💞Cornrows. I LOVE CORNROWS SO MUCh. they were the only protective style I did throughout elementary school even though they hurt the most outta of all the hairstyles I still love them more. obviously, these is my favorite protective hairstyle to do but I'm not allowed to get them during the winter because I can't risk getting sick so I have to wait till I take these braids out
I WANT TO GET FULANI BRAIDS AFTER I TAKE THESE BRAIDS. I've wanted to do them since last march.
💞Crochet braids are one of the fastest hairstyles but they're my least favorite along with weaves. THey get so itchy and uncomfortable ESPECIALLY over the summer. They're also hard to maintain and style, for me at least.
Weaves/Sew ins are really cute. but I HATED my first one (and maybe last one) it was a lace front closure and just uhhh it was so bad I didn't know how to care for it, I mean the hair itself was ok but the lace front was most DEF not. These are the second easiest in terms of manipulation and time. Usually, they take only 2-3 hours depending on the hairstylist ofc.
💞Wigs. I kinda want a wig but I heard they get really hot and uncomfortable so when I'm older. But when I get them, I want a straight wig and a curly one. BUt they're the easiest protective hairstyle in terms of convenience, you can just throw it on, fix it up, and go
She's so pretty😍. But this is ItsManiBaby on Youtube, go check her out! She did a video on her curly hair lace front wig, I have it up there.
💞Faux Locs. these are really pretty I've never had them but I really want to try them out but just not now. I heard they get frizzy quickly too.
✨I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO BRAID especially before college I'm gonna try to do my own single braids over the summer but they're gonna be big cause it will be my first time (unless doing braids on my American girl doll counts). Whats your favorite protective style? When do you usually get them? Do you get different colored braids or weaves/wigs (color that isn't your own hair color)? OH and do you call them box braids or single braids?
