The sound of an alarm is never a good way to start a morning but alas, Bridgette Decker had no choice in her circumstances this morning and she couldn't help but groan unhappily, rolling in bed with a pillow over her face in an attempt to drown out the irritating ringing. When her effort to fall back to sleep failed her, she let out a sigh and admitted to her fate. Pushing off the bed, Bridgette yelped as her feet made contact with the icy floor, her feet quickly scouring for her slippers before finally moving to turn off the alarm.

Her morning started off as any other, a quick shower, a few minutes brushing her teeth, and a good amount of time spent in front of her closet doors, flipping through her wardrobe before finally settling on a black pencil skirt and pale pink blouse. It was as she was finishing the last touches of her signature makeup that  her phone lit up with a text, the screen flashing the name Chantelle Miller, the new principal at the school she taught at:

Hey Bridgette, I'm going to need you to come in early today. We've got a lot to discuss since last night and I've been considering a lot about whaat you've said. Please come meet me in my office in half and hour or so.

Chantelle and Bridgette didn't exactly hit it off right at the beginning of the school year, the two women having differing views on how the school should be run. Bridgette was an idealist, progressive when it came to how the high school she taught at should be run. As a math teacher, she experienced the stresses of her student's firsthand and Chantelle's ideas to introduce more standardized tests into the curriculum wasn't ideal on her student's mental wellbeing. And yesterday evening, the two women had a heavy argument on the very topic that ended with Chantelle threatening to fire Bridgette for failing to follow orders.

So, seeing the text surprised her to say the least and she smiled down at the screen as she typed back her response:

Of course! I'll see you soon.

With a new bounce in her step, Bridgette skipped down the stairs into her kitchen, grabbing the cereal box out of her cupboard and poured herself a bowl of granola. Finishing her breakfast as quickly as she could, she tossed the empty bowl into the sink, promising herself to wash it when she got back. Grabbing her bag and the newly marked math tests left on her kitchen table, Bridgette slipped on her black pumps and slipped out the door, unaware of the shadow that slipped behind her house upon her exit.
