Chapter 16

Lightning's POV

I woke up bright and early in the morning. I pet Zelda and got up. I brushed my hair and walked out Zelda by my side.

"Morning guys!" I smiled at Rick, Michonne and Hershel.

"Morning." They replied.

I grabbed some water and gave some to Zelda. I grabbed some breakfast that was leftover deer Daryl had caught yesterday. I gave some to Zelda and saved some for myself. I got a little bit extra and walked down to where Carl was.

"Carl?" I called out among the halls. Carl came strolling around the corner and we smiled at each other.

"Brought you something to eat." I handed him the plate of deer.

"Thanks." I watched as Carl gobbled down the deer.

"So how is everyone?" I asked.

"Good. It's boring though." Carl sighed and handed me the plate.

"Well.... I'll see you later." I sighed sadly. I turned to leave when Carl stopped me.

"What? No good bye kiss?" He sounded so sad I almost laughed.

"Nope. Rick said we had to keep our distance." I blew Carl a kiss instead. "That's the best I can do." I chuckled and walked away Zelda still by my side.

I walked over to uncle Daryl and smiled at him.

"Hey."

"Hey."

"Um... I was wondering... Can you turn the bunks in my cell into a double bed?" I asked smiling innocently.

"No way in hell. Your not having Carl sleep in your bed with you." Uncle Daryl looked angry but I gave him a look and he knew what was coming.

I sucked in a breath and let out my loudest scream. Almost immediately a hand was over my mouth.

"Okay okay fine. Geez" my uncle sighed in defeat. I chuckled and gave him a kiss on the cheek and left. I walked out to the yard and started to play tag with Zelda.

This dog is really smart. She already knew sit, lie down and paw but I taught her high five, stand up and roll over.

I actually taught my aunts dog lie down, paw with both paws, roll over, high five with both paws and also stand up.

I laughed as Zelda tackled me and we rolled around on the ground. She licked my face and I laughed even harder. My eyes were squeezed shut.

"LIGHTNING!!!" I heard loud screams. I got up panicked and I saw the inside fence falling because of the walkers. Walkers started pouring into the yard and I remember I left my weapons inside.

"ZELDA COME ON!" I screamed and me and Zelda ran to the prison as fast as we could.

Rick opened the gate and I ran through as he shut it quickly.

I fell to the ground breathing heavy. I turned over and lay on my back.

"You okay?"

"I'm fine uncle Daryl." I sighed and stood up. "What are we supposed to do now?!" I asked looking at the dozens of walker that now filled the yard where out crops were. Thank god for Michonne who went out today on the horse. She left while I was with Carl. Rick had gotten rid of the piglets and Violet a long time ago and the pen had been destroyed.

The walkers started to pile against the gate that was in front if us and I knew we didn't have much time. I thought quickly and knew what I had to do.
