Chapter One
Vladimir Of Verish

Once I caught her scent out in the woods, I ran in the direction as fast as my feet would carry me. I stopped when I suddenly hit her scent with the mixture of sweetness and salt; blood. And it was her's. I hissed and looked around, finding a few droplets on the forest floor. They led east, deeper into the forest; I was out all night looking for her, but it led nowhere.

I returned to the palace and immediately called General Haggar into my office. "I caught her scent near Black Lake in the woods. She was harmed," I hissed, feeling my fangs lengthen. "I found her blood."

Haggar clenched his fist. "Permission to ask of my lord?"

"Granted."

"Was there another scent that you noticed besides her's? Hunters perhaps?"

I frowned, disappointed in myself. How could I not investigate further?! "I was only focused on her's. Finally sensing her just-distracted me. I should have been more logical." I hit my desk and heard it crack. Sighing, I pulled out a pen and circled the location where I smelt her. "I know you have a strategy already-Tell me."

"Search parties tomorrow night, first shining of the moon light, a group in each direction."

"But they do not know her scent."

"We can meet where you found her blood. The scent should still faintly be there; I'll gather my best trackers."

I nodded, "Start now please, and when you leave to do so, tell my sister to come see me here. I want to tell her the news also."

"Of course, your Majesty." He bowed and left me in the office, reminiscing about my Mate's sweet scent. She wasn't human, but she wasn't a pure blood vampire either, so what was she? There was too little of her scent to know for certain. I was pulled out of my thoughts when my sister Violet entered.

"What is it, brother?" I looked up at her and I saw her frown; I must have an expression she recognizes, or doesn't. Her long, black hair was up in a ponytail and her attire showed that she must have been training when I called for her. Her red eyes shone with slight worry as she moved closer to me.

"I caught a scent by Black Lake. It was Her's." Violet sat down slowly in one of the brown leather chairs across from my desk. "I found some of her blood on the ground, and Haggar suggested search parties tomorrow night. We'll meet up where I found the blood and spread out from there; I would like you to come with me."

She nodded, coming to my side. "Of course, Vlad," she put her hand on top of mine to comfort me. "You've been searching for her for so long, anyone in this coven will go to the ends of the Earth to find her." I nodded and looked down at her long, slim fingers on her dainty hands; they were like Mother's.

I looked up at her, patting her cheek. "You remind me so much of Mother," I said, giving her a tight-lipped smile.

She laughed, "And you remind me so much of Father." Silenced passed between us before she spoke again. "We're going to find her, Vladimir, I know we will. I know that I won't stop searching until she's find and I know you won't either." She pulled me into a comforting hug, patting my back. "I love you, brother."

"I love you too, Violet. You best get back to training, last time we sparred you were a bit weak on your left hook, " I teased.

She rolled her red eyes and smacked my shoulder. "I'll show you my left hook." She waved and exited my office, leaving me alone in my thoughts once again.

I'd never smelt anything so lovely in my entire existence, her faint scent was of fresh honeysuckle and her blood was the delicious nectar. I wonder what she looked like. Did she have green eyes, or brown, maybe even blue or grey. Was she tall, short, average? I'm willing to wager her hair was as soft as the snow, and her skin smooth as the petals of a rose. Then my mind wandered to whoever the bastard that took her was. Anger and burning rage filled me at the thought of my flower being harmed in any way. I stood and walked out; I needed to run and hunt.
