Chapter Twenty-Two
Lucinda Of CelestialsI'd never seen anything quite like the sieging of the castle. Glass from the floor to ceiling windows crashed into guests as well as me. I felt the shards cutting at my cheeks, but I couldn't seem to care as I focussed my gaze to the vampires charging through the broken pieces, guns up past their face. My face whipped around to find Vladimir, fighting off several, but taking too many hits. My wings unfurled, ripping away my beautiful dress. I flew to the highest point of the room and bowed my head.
"With all that is in me, let my enemies fade." I clapped my wings together, sending a wave of the Death Angel among them, piercing their bodies. Many fell to the floor immediately, and some tried to fight in vain, but everyone watched as our intruders inevitably fell. All eyes were on me as I flew back down to the ground and into the arms of my mate. He covered me with his suit jacket and I wrapped my arms around him. "Are you alright?"
He scoffed, "Am I alright? Are you?"
"I'm fine," I chuckled.
"What was that you did?"
"I summoned the Death Angel."
His eyes widened in both confusion and worry, but he sighed and looked around. "This was supposed to be a perfect night." He pursed his lips, nodded to someone and led me out of the ballroom. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and leaned close to my ear. "Listen to me, Lucinda, it isn't safe here anymore. I saw those weapons they were using and they don't just wipe out Succubi. We need to leave." He flung open the door to our room and pulled out suitcases from underneath the bed. "We're going to the most secure safe house there is, it's miles away from here, but we must leave tonight."
"I'm not leaving our people."
"They are all going to houses too, no one will be here."
"But-"
"We're leaving, Lucinda, I don't want to argue about your safety. Now, please pack." I gulped and did as he said, trying to fit as many clothes as I could as well as my shampoos and such. "Are you ready?" I nodded and lifted the luggage off the bed, following Vladimir out the door. He takes my hand, squeezing it for reassurance.
I stayed silent in the car all the way to the safe house, not sparing a glance at my mate who seemed annoyed by that. I unloaded my bag, walked into the house, picked a random room to sleep in, shut and locked the door. I really didn't want to talk to him because I knew the outcome. He would sweetly apologize, I'd forgive him, and life would go back to normal...except it wouldn't because we were stuck in this stupid safe house; just him and me. I put my clothes away and plopped down on the small twin bed, sighing. I took the blue quilt in my hands and let a tear fall onto it, breathing deeply.
It seems that we had taken a step forward, only to take two steps back.
I sniffled and laid down on the bed, looking towards the door. A part of me wished that he would come bursting in, apologizing and begging me to forgive him. He never did. I did feel his presence on the other side for about ten minutes, but he walked away towards which ever room he had chosen. I stood up and stretched my wings, walking to the balcony doors only to find them locked. I sighed. Why does a safe house even have a balcony?! I wanted to fly so badly; I hadn't been in the sky in so long. Once the hands of the clock hit 12, I knew that Vladimir would be in his room so I went down through the living area and into the kitchen to grab a bag of blood. With the tension growing between Vladimir and I, there was no doubt I wouldn't be receiving emotions to keep me well.
"Lucinda." Think and he shall appear. I turned with the blood bag in my hand, the refrigerator door still open. "I thought you'd be asleep." Well, so did I, but we are obviously both wrong. I merely stared at him, the cool air from the appliance pricking my left side. "Speak to me."
"Is that a command, my King?"
He sighed and ran a hand over his face. "Listen, I'm trying to keep myself in check, but this was for your safety, Lucy, that's something I'm afraid I cannot compromise on. I love our people as much as you do and I want them safe as well, but as my mate and the queen, you are the one that is more important! Ask any of our citizens and they will tell you the same damn thing." I gulped, but said nothing, knowing that he was going to continue. "This was supposed the be the night that we become one, but instead I feel as though we've never been more divided, but the thing is, it's not my fault! I love you and I'm not perfect, but I'm the only one that seems to be making an effort to change the qualities that you don't like!"
"Are you implying that I have qualities you don't like?"
"And now you speak!"
"Do I?"
"YES!"
I crossed my arms. "What then?"
"Well, first off you always assume that I think your below me when I try to protect you-"
I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "Yes, this ONE time."
"You always interrupt me!"
"Ugh! You know what, I'm going to my room!"
I turned to leave, but was held back by Vladimir's hand gripping my arm. "The hell you are! We're finishing this."
"There's nothing left to say."
"There's plenty to say. Just-listen. I love you; everything about you and I want to keep you safe. You are the most important person to me, Lucinda, you're my mate, my queen, my wife, my love, and eventually the mother of my children." Tears sprang up in my eyes. "I can't lose you-I just can't." His grip soften and he stepped back, rubbing his hands down his face while taking in a shaky breath.
"Vlad."
"I just want you safe with me."
I cupped his face in my hands, bringing his lips down to mine. "I know. I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too," he said, giving my neck small kisses.
I sighed in content and gripped his shoulders. "Is it too late to consummate?"
He chuckled and lifted me up by my thighs. "Never."
