Soon after Yoongi left, Taehyung spotted the note with the older man's number on it. Jimin was still in the living room, so he hadn't seen it yet.

"He really likes you, you know," he raises his voice slightly so Jimin will hear him.

"No, I don't know, actually. It doesn't matter anyway, you know I've sworn off relationships."

"Because of—"

"Don't say his name. I don't want to talk about him or anything relating to the past two years of my life. Ever." Jimin cuts Taehyung off quickly and coldly, making the younger man feel bad for bringing up the past. Jimin was obviously still hurting, and even though Taehyung felt like talking would help him heal, he always flat out refused.

"I only mentioned it because he left his number," Taehyung says, softer this time.

"You don't have his number?" Jungkook, who had been sitting silently, piped up.

"No. It's easier to keep the 'no strings attached' promise if you keep the communication to a minimum. Just throw it away, Tae."

Taehyung wants to argue, wants to remind his best friend that not everyone is out to hurt and manipulate him, but it's a battle he won't win. Still, he doesn't throw Yoongi's number away. The next morning, Jimin wants to throw it away, feels like he should throw it away. He even goes through with it once, only to fish it back out moments later. With a dramatic groan, he texts Yoongi without saving his number. Jimin has decided that that makes it okay, that a number with no name means no attachment and no getting hurt.

Jimin
Why'd you leave your number? I think I was pretty clear about the rules

Yoongi
I just wanted you to have it, in case you need anything.

Jimin
I don't need anybody Yoongi

Yoongi
Just in case.

For the next few weeks, Yoongi continues trying to break down the barrier Jimin purposefully built between them, sending "good morning" and "good night" texts daily, along with reminders to eat and random compliments if they happen to cross paths that day. Jimin is confused and conflicted, and he never responds to any of Yoongi's messages, but he also never asks him to stop.

One afternoon, Jimin is waiting outside a practice room in the music hall of his university. According to the sign-in sheets used to ensure everyone gets their time, the occupant of the room he's waiting on should be out within twenty minutes. It's someone playing the piano, and it's relaxing, so Jimin leans his head on the wall and closes his eyes to listen. He's in such a trance that he doesn't notice when the music stops and the door opens, until a familiar voice calls out to him.

"Jimin?"

Jimin's eyes fly open and he instinctively shields himself a bit before realizing it's just Yoongi. "Was that you playing in there?"

"Obviously. Did you like it?"

"Yeah, it sounded good. You should give me lessons sometime," Jimin is mostly kidding because he already knows how to play semi-well, but the way Yoongi's eyes light up at the idea of teaching him means he's going to have to fake it.

"Maybe if you actually reply to one of my texts, we could set something up." He smiles kindly and heads off, leaving Jimin to dance for the next three hours.

Once Jimin has returned home and showered, he decides to text the friend that wanted him to date Yoongi in the first place - Namjoon. Even though Namjoon could tell Jimin that Yoongi was Mother Teresa reincarnated and Jimin would still doubt his intentions, maybe a little reassurance would help. It certainly can't hurt.
