A/N: this chapter contains some triggering content regarding abuse, nothing too graphic but please be aware! Jimin's ex is a random name, so if there's anyone famous who also be has that name, it's unintentional. Also, my apologies for POV switching and the blocks of text when Jimin is telling his story - I don't know how to format it any better. This chapter is long and messy, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

Part one of Jimin's master plan came a lot easier than he thought it would - the university's psychology department offered counseling on campus for next to nothing, to give the graduate students real-world experience. He wasn't sure if that meant that he was actually just getting a makeshift therapist, but there was no way he was going to be able to afford therapy elsewhere, so he was grateful.

He spent the first two weekly appointments pretending he didn't actually need to be in therapy, which was confusing for both him and the therapist because, well, he had signed himself up for these sessions. Being open about his emotions was not Jimin's strong suit - he had perfected ways to hide behind various masks. There was a point when he had to to survive. Now, he does it out of habit. It feels safer.

Before Jimin's third session, he and Yoongi have scheduled a piano lesson, hoping that the older man hadn't mentioned this to Jin, who would've pointed out that he and Jimin took piano lessons together for at least two years. Luckily, it seemed that the small bluff hadn't been called out. They met in the same practice room as before, when Jimin first heard Yoongi playing.

"Can you read music?" Yoongi got right down to business, tossing his bag and jacket on a chair. Jimin followed suit, confirming that he can, indeed, read music before joining Yoongi on the piano bench.

Yoongi decided that Twinkle Twinkle Little Star would be a good song to start with, so he played it at normal speed for Jimin, then slowed it down to the individual notes. Jimin had learned this song when he was six, but he purposefully messed up a couple of times so that Yoongi could feel good about teaching him something, something he was obviously passionate about. Yoongi beamed with pride when Jimin got all but one note right, like he was teaching him something really profound and Jimin was an absolute genius for catching on so fast.

Jimin fleetingly thinks that Yoongi has a killer smile, and that he'd be willing to do just about anything to make it appear more often. He pushes the thought away before it can manifest in his brain.

Jimin kept missing the note on purpose. His aim was to get Yoongi to do that cliche thing from the movies, where he stands behind Jimin, guiding his smaller ones with much larger and more experienced ones. Eventually, this works, and Jimin's heart beats a little faster. It isn't like they've never been this close before - in fact, they've been much closer and much more intimate - but it's the first time they've been this close with clothes on. Without a sexual motive. For some reason, it holds a lot of weight to Jimin. So much weight that when it's happening, when Yoongi's chest is lightly pressed against his back and his rough fingers are on top of Jimin's and his breath is against Jimin's neck, it becomes too much. He is hit with a flashback so hard it knocks the wind out of him, makes him shove the piano bench back and shove Yoongi away so hard the older man nearly falls down.

"What the hell, Jimin? It's not that big of a deal, it's just a song," Yoongi's hands are up in defense and his eyes are wide, truly bewildered by the change in Jimin's behavior. Especially because he thinks it's due to Jimin's inability to nail Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

When Yoongi realizes that Jimin is crumpled on the floor, crying and hyperventilating, he registers two things: one, that Jimin is having a panic attack, and two, that maybe there's something else going on beyond the song. His mind immediately goes back to the notes he found over a months ago.
