Yoongi does not know what to do with everything being thrown at him at the same time. At first, he's confused as to why Jimin couldn't make the walk back to the apartment, considering that it's less than three blocks and he makes the walk a few times a week. Upon hearing that Jimin has been hiding a potential stalker from him and probably everyone else, he's angry. Not necessarily at Jimin, although he does wish the younger man would stop trying to shoulder everything on his own, but that anger quickly shifted to red hot rage when he heard the messages. It doesn't even have time to really settle in before he realizes that Jimin is having a really bad panic attack. Yoongi isn't even sure that his boyfriend can hear him at this point, but he keeps trying anyway, carefully dialling Taehyung's number and trying not to crash the car at the same time.
"Jimin, you're okay, you're safe. Can you hear me?" Yoongi is trying to speak softly, but truthfully, he's bordering on panic himself.
"Hello?"
"Tae, Tae, are you home? If you're not, get there now. It's Jimin, I'm parking right now, I can explain later but please come down if you're home," Yoongi rambles, unbuckling and going over to Jimin's side as he talks.
"I'm coming, Kook is with me," Taehyung says before hanging up.
The pair is there within a minute, finding Yoongi struggling to hold Jimin in his arms, cradled against his chest.
"I think he's gonna pass out, we need to get him inside," Yoongi suggests, and everyone agrees. The elevator takes forever, but Yoongi doesn't think he can carry Jimin up the stairs, so they wait.
Once inside the apartment, Yoongi lays Jimin on his own bed, takes his shoes off for him, and lays down in front of him. The older man rubs Jimin's back, up his neck and through his hair, tracing his features with one finger like he did weeks ago, speaking quiet comforts until Taehyung walks in with a little pill and some water.
"It's clonazepam. He never takes it because he's scared to get hooked, but he needs it right now. Please get him to take it."
Yoongi agrees, gently guiding Jimin to an upright position. He takes the pill without question before lying back down. His breathing was almost normal again, still heavy and riddled with hiccups, but he wasn't in danger of passing out anymore. The older man doesn't push conversation, just keeps talking softly and keeping a hand on him at all times - Jimin once said that it keeps him grounded. After another half hour or so, Jimin is asleep, and Yoongi leaves a post-it note on the bed beside him reading I'm in the living room whenever you wake up. ❤️ Yoongs so that his absence wouldn't cause more panic. He also swipes Jimin's phone, knowing Taehyung and Jungkook will want the full story.
He shuts Jimin's bedroom door softly behind him and sighs, sitting in the recliner and explaining everything he knows, passing the phone around so the messages could be read.
"How could they let him out? Do they not notify people when shit like this happens?" Taehyung is angrier than Yoongi has ever seen him. It's frightening how the normally loud man is eerily calm in the moment.
"Do you think..." Jungkook trails off, unsure about what he's going to say. "What if the call he got from the prison wasn't actually his ex trying to talk to him, but the prison trying to let him know that his ex was being released?"
It seemed plausible. "We obviously have to call the police. There's no way in hell we're gonna sit here and let him tear Jimin down again," Taehyung says, and everyone agrees. Jungkook ends up making the call, considering he's the most level-headed right now. Yoongi is still shaking with anger, and Taehyung looks like he wants to launch a manhunt to capture this guy, which Yoongi wouldn't object to. He focuses on the side of the conversation he can hear, instead.
"Park Jimin, yes, his ex-boyfriend was arrested a couple of years ago for assault...He was never notified...He began receiving messages today, but suspected he was being stalked for about six weeks...What?...Yes, of course...I'm absolutely positive...The number that sent the texts is...Yeah, okay. Thanks." Jungkook hangs up and groans loudly into a pillow. "That was useless."
He explains that the officer he spoke with traced the number to a disposable cell phone, that victims aren't required to be notified when their attackers are released from prison, that this man was released early for good behavior, and that stalking can't be prosecuted unless they have more proof.
"So basically, Jimin has to suffer. Again. What a joke," Taehyung laughs bitterly.
"No." Jungkook says coldly, making both Yoongi and Taehyung look at him questioningly. "We're not letting him get Jimin. First step, get him a new number. Second, someone stays with him at all times. Third, we compile enough evidence to nail this bastard and make sure he never even thinks about breathing near Jimin again." His normally kind and innocent doe eyes are on fire, and Yoongi feels a surge of appreciation for him - even though he's just as angry as he and Taehyung are, he came up with a solid plan.
Everyone in the friend group is told of the recent events, just so everyone is in the loop. Taehyung calls the phone company and gets Jimin's number changed while Yoongi and Jungkook try to work out whose schedule would allow them to be with Jimin during the day. Ultimately, it is decided that Jungkook will be with him a lot, since they have similar class schedules, and Hobi agreed to keep an eye on him during dance practices, leaving everyone else to just be available whenever they're needed.
They've barely had time to breathe after all the preparations before Jimin is awake, silently entering the living room and sitting on Yoongi's lap.
"Sorry for freaking out. I was scared. I am scared," Jimin whispers.
"Nobody blames you for that, Jiminie. You don't have to be sorry," Yoongi soothes.
Taehyung and Jungkook express their agreement, and the whole plan is laid out for Jimin in the least overwhelming way possible.
"I'm so sorry guys. You shouldn't have to do all this," Jimin's voice cracks more than once, so he starts whispering instead. "You shouldn't have to revolve your lives around me."
"We're doing this because we love you, okay? Keeping you safe isn't a burden, it doesn't bother us," Jungkook says with conviction. Everyone in the room was surprised at the outright display of affection.
"Exactly. You're not doing this alone this time, Jiminie. You have so many people in your corner," Taehyung swallows thickly, and Yoongi thinks he'd probably start crying if he kept talking.
Jimin nods and agrees, thanking them for loving him and staying by his side, but Yoongi can't help but feel that the younger man is just saying what he knows everyone else wants to hear. The allusions to suicide in the messages Jimin received have Yoongi on edge more than anything else. He knows his boyfriend would rather let his problems eat him alive than make someone else worry, and that scares Yoongi deeply. How do you protect someone from their own mind, their own thoughts? He doesn't know, but he resolves to figure it out. Losing Jimin isn't an option. Period.
