that i don't believe in

when you were drowning,
i cancelled all my plans,
& i made sure you knew
that i was there for you.
when you were fighting your demons
i was there fighting with you.
you said i was your knight in shining armor

i might have been your knight
but i cannot save the day this time.
this time i am the one drowning,
and i don't really want to swim.
i see you outside the water,
laughing, having the time of your life.
then, you saw me.
you looked into my eyes
for a small amount of time.
you saw me drowning,
calling out to you for help,
but still, you carried on.
you acted as if you had never known me.
as if i hadn't stayed with you on sleepless nights
making sure that you made it to the next sunrise.
i was by your side every damn time
but the second i need you
it's like someone cut the line.
