when you met me, i needed you
i tried to hide my loneliness, but you saw right through
you knew that i was lacking love
you knew i didn't feel like i was enough
i was your target
and you were a hunter
you chased me down, you sought me out
i made it easy, i thought we were playing around
but you are "not a game"
you made that clear that day
so for a long time, i danced in your orbit
i was your puppet, and you were my keeperone day, my legs felt stronger and my head felt balanced, and i knew it was time
i ran and i ran until i knew i had crossed every one of your lines
i didn't care that if you caught me, my life would only be worse
i just ran until i couldn't; until my legs felt they were going to burst
when i turned around to see if i'd done it, i saw you had not moved
you said to me "you were never my prisoner; the only person that held you hostage was you."
