I paint my toes red while talking to Kinly on the phone.
"So I had a test today in Hoard. It was difficult. Anyway Alyssa wants to throw a party Saturday and I told her it was a great idea. That's my plans for this weekend. Want to join me?" Guilt fills my head for making plans with Brody. I should be making plans with her not him. Clearing my throat loud enough for Kinly to hear on the other end. I think up a small lie.
"My aunt from Maine is coming in town late Friday night with her four year old. So in other words I get to babysit while my aunt and mom go out shopping."
"Dang, I was excited to do some partying with my girl."
"Aww. Don't make me feel bad. Just think of it as being free of no boyfriend and clingy best friend for the night."
"I'm okay with the no boyfriend, but I need the best friend clinge. I can't be Samantha without Carrie"
"Haha. Can I ask you a serious question?"
      "Go for it."
"Did you ever sleep with Brody?" Once the words were out of my mouth I completely regretted asking. It wasn't my business, I also wasn't sure if I was okay if she said yes.
"Ms. Laura wants to know whether I did the dirty. Hahaha."
      "No details please."
"Fine I won't. Yes we did. Many times in fact. He was good. I just need a break." I felt a slight less need for Brody. Why? I began to get far into thought. I forgot I was on the phone with Kinly.
"Hello? Laura are you still there?"
"Hey, sorry I got a little side tracked sorry. I need to go I totally forgot about the homework I need to finish."
"Okay, see you tomorrow." I walk over to the bathroom and wash my face. As I washed my face I thought about Saturday. I was anxious, but after talking with Kinly I didn't get a giddy feeling. Was I attracted to Brody? It was a stupid question. I have known the answer all along. I found attraction to him ever since the first time he told me about Pearl Jam. That was before Kinly wanted a break. I threw my body back onto my bed. I tried clearing my mind of all thoughts. And finally everything went blank.

I walked up to the two arguing. I began to sit down when Kinly looks up at me and asks,
"Laura, thank God you're here. We are not sitting with Brody today, he's being in ass!" I needed an explanation to why she was being so rude. If I had a boyfriend that's the last thing I would be.
"Why don't you guys make up. I'm sure it was something stupid."
"Laura I'm done talking about it, so it's either you stay here or come with me."
"I'll stay." She stomped back inside. I set my backpack onto to the ground. Brody looks over at me with a thank you smile.
"So what made her so bitchy?" He laughed at my choice of words.
"Well if you don't mind I would rather not talk about it."
"Okay. Want to share music?" I hold the ear bud up for him to take.
"Hmm I don't know. You probably have Shawn Mendes and G-EaZy." He takes the earbud and places it into his left ear.
"I'm offended. As a matter of fact I like a variety of music and that does not include pop and rap."
"Is that so. Let's see your playlist." He grabs my phone out of my hands catching me off guard. I was slightly nervous to his critictions.
"Laura I'm impressed, but very disappointed.
      "Ha why?"
"Well your range from Hinder to Tom Petty is strange for any girl. Your only missing a very important band."
      "And that is?"
"Pearl Jam." I had heard of the band, but none of their songs came to mind. Brody must have noticed the confusion on my face. He went to Spotify and searched Pearl Jam.
"My favorite song is, 'Once'. it has so much emotion. You can feel the anger in the guitar, but release in the lyrics." The song went on and I became addicted. He played one right after another. Wishlist, Sister, Jeremy, Alive. All I really enjoyed, but Black hit me the hardest.
"I love Black." He chuckled at me. I was so confused.
     "Why is that funny?"
"It's not. It's just not what I expected from you."
"I love the openness about it and how he describes her. So innocent, but he can't have her. Then someone takes her from him and she becomes tainted. No longer clean, black." He didn't say anything instead stared at me.
"Exactly." Kinly disappeared from both of our trains of thoughts. It was just the two of us.
