A few months earlier...
"So who can tell me the definition of mitosis? Anyone?" Mr. Daly's monotonous voice filled the classroom with his question. He was desperately trying to find a glimmer of hope in what had to be the worst biology class ever to exist.
The GPA of this class has to be in the negatives, Thomas couldn't help but think as he looked around and saw everyone was as confused as he was. Thomas had promised to improve his biology grade last month when Coach Samuels had threatened to bench him because of it but come on, Mr. Daly had to be making up stuff at this point.
"Anyone? We covered it last week. You should all know it." Thomas caught the eye of his best friend, Logan and Thomas snickered. Logan and Thomas had to be Mr. Daly's least favourite students ever. Not only were they always late, they never bothered with homework and also tended to laugh at everything he said. They just did it to piss him off and see how far they could push him before he sent them to the principal.
"Mr. Brooks, Mr. Crawford, I am glad I am amusing you both. Now can either of you tell the class what mitosis is?" Mr. Daly asked the two boys, folding his arms across his chest. Logan and Thomas both glanced at each other, trying to keep a straight face.
"Wait! That's the thing when you have an orgasm and then... I mean, organ- it sounds like orgasm and then suddenly there's more stuff..." Logan gave up, a huge grin on his tan face. Thomas couldn't help but burst out laughing at how stupid his friend was.
"Mr. Brooks?" Mr. Daly's attention turned to Thomas. "Oh, it's that process when plants do their thing with each other and then comes along a baby plant," Thomas answered, feeling proud he had used the word process in a sentence.
"Actually it's a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue growth," a girlish voice mumbled from behind Thomas, loud enough for him and evidently Mr. Daly to hear.
"Thank God someone actually listens," Mr. Daly threw his hands up into the air. He then looked at the girl with a creepy glare and then did the creepiest thing Thomas had ever seen - he smiled. It sent shivers down Thomas' spine.
"So now that Madison has helped us establish that basic piece of information," Mr. Daly glared at Logan and Thomas at this point. "We can begin discussing..." Thomas tuned out as his teacher droned on and began daydreaming about a certain blond. Today was going to be a very long day.
