The room was flooded with light once Thomas opened his eyes. He was sitting in a familiar place - the school cafeteria. It was packed with people but they were out of focus. All except one - Jodie. This wasn't the first time he had dreamt about her.
Thomas slowly stood up and began walking towards her but the closer he tried to get, the further away she seemed to be. He started walking faster but he hit an invisible force and went flying backwards, hitting the furthest wall away from Jodie. Thomas groaned in pain and then looked up. Jodie was now out of focus, just like the rest of the crowd.
He squinted, trying to see anyone near him clearly but it wouldn't work. His eyes began stinging from straining to see clearly so he shut them. He wanted to be anywhere else but after a minute, he reopened them. He was still in the same spot.
He stood up and strolled out of the cafeteria into the familiar hallway. He could feel a pull which he followed. It was as if he were a piece of metal being drawn to a magnet.
After turning right past his locker, he stopped. Up ahead of him was a blinding light. That was the source of the pull he felt. He needed to go into it.
Don't leave me, a sweet voice said from behind him. He gingerly turned his head and there stood Jodie, now in focus. She was in a white, floor length dress and Thomas couldn't help but compare her to one of those goddesses they learned about in history. She reached out, wanting him to close the short distance between them and forget about the light behind him.
But he couldn't. Whatever attraction he had towards her, the light held a power over him so strong, he had no choice. He smiled at Jodie once more before stepping into the light.

Thomas' whole body was drenched in sweat when he woke up. He glanced at his clock and saw it was just after 2 a.m. Four more hours and he would have to be up for school.
Thomas groaned at the thought of school and tossed the cover off of his sweaty body. He sat up slowly and ran his fingers through his dark hair. Even his hair was soaked with sweat.
He got out of bed and paddled over to his bathroom, flicking the light on. The light hurt his eyes for a few seconds before they adjusted. Thomas hobbled over to the sink and turned the tap on, splashing cool water onto his face.
He switched the tap off and as he turned to grab a towel from the rack, he caught movement in his peripheral vision. His heart quickened as his thoughts went into overdrive. For all he knew it could be a serial killer. Or worse - one of his psycho ex's. But then his rational mind took over. He was half asleep so of course he was imagining things. He just needed to relax and go back to bed.
That helped him for all of two seconds until the lights in the bathroom turned off and Thomas was plunged into darkness. Thomas was really panicking now. But he knew he could take down whoever was there. He was 6'1" and 210 pounds of pure muscle so he could kick their ass.
Thomas heard rummaging next. Was the intruder... rooting through his drawers?
He mustered up enough courage to peek out of the bathroom into his bedroom. The only light in the room was coming through his window and he couldn't see anyone. Maybe he had been just imagining things. His heart was thudding in his chest but he was able to think a bit clearer. Everything was fi-
"Boo!" a voice yelled behind Thomas and whoever it was pushed him into his bedroom. The bathroom door slammed shut and Thomas turned around quickly but no one was there. He knew he definitely wasn't imagining things now.
Holy shit, Thomas thought. There is a ghost in my room. A ghost who can push me around. What kind of fuc-
"Yawn. You are more boring than I thought, Tommy," the voice chimed in, interrupting his thoughts. Thomas noted it was a girl's voice.
"Hello?" he said, quite brave for someone who felt they were going to piss themselves any minute.
"Hey Tommy," the voice replied from the the corner nearest Thomas' bedroom door. "Nice undies by the way. I am sure all the girls love your superman boxers. Very sexy," the voice said sarcastically. "No wait, you are a virgin, even though you pretend otherwise. Touchy subject, my bad."
Thomas squinted, trying to spot where the taunting voice was coming from. When he couldn't, he came to a conclusion. He was going mad. The voice was in his head.
"Need glasses, Tommy? What are trying to do there, see me? You're only going to hurt yourself sweetie. Then again, I would enjoy that," the voice told him.
Thomas tried to block out the voice and sat on his bed. He inhaled and exhaled slowly and tried to think of something else.
He then heard the voice let out a giggle. "Yes, I heard breathing helps lower anxiety levels. I read that somewhere. Funny people, you humans are."
Yes, Thomas was going crazy. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to shut the voice out. He did it all the time when his Mom shouted at him so he could do this. Or so he thought.
"Yes, closing your eyes will make me go away. Clearly," the voice said sarcastically. "I have no power now you are ignoring me. And if I am being honest, you are hurting my feelings. I thought we were becoming friends."
Thomas felt a force knock into him, pushing him so he now was lying on his bed. His eyes flew open and he shot up from his position and looked around his room. Nothing.
"You're too much fun, Tommy." Thomas heard the girl laugh loudly before he was consumed by darkness.
