Chapter 13
Cherie unwillingly called Brody in the early morning of Friday to meet up with her that day during lunchtime. Now, here she was, sitting and waiting patiently for Brody as she started to play with her coffee mug at ‘Jay’s Coffee Shop’
‘Hello.’ A deep familiar voice greeted from above her head.
Cherie looked up from her coffee and butterflies came alive in her belly.
‘Brody.’ Cherie shyly smiled as he took a seat across from her. She noticed he was in his business attire. The suit sculpted his body, showing the world he was well defined under the attire. She felt a searing heat ignite in her stomach as she thought of what wonders they had together as she used to touch his broad, muscular chest.
Cherie cleared her throat, mentally shaking away her thoughts.
‘I know this was unexpected for me to call you to meet up at this time but-‘ she was interrupted.
‘A nice unexpected call.’ Brody reassured.
Cherie blushed and then cleared her throat, ‘But- Oh, how rude of me. I should have asked how you were doing instead of just cutting to the topic.’
Brody lightly chuckled, ‘I’m fine if that was what you wanted to ask. But really, do go on.’
‘Oh, I’m hogging up your time, aren’t I? I should have just asked you straight from the start about my problem. Oh I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to-‘
Brody interrupted, ‘Cherie, what’s wrong?’
Cherie sighed and realized how stupid she sounded. He still had this effect on her whether she was mad at him or not. ‘My mother wants to invite you and I for dinner tomorrow.’
No response came from Brody. Cherie looked up from her mug and saw the nervous glow in his eyes.
‘Are… are you sure?’
‘Well you see, that’s the problem. I don’t want to tell her about… our situation because you know how she is. She’ll just tell us to suck it up and plus it won’t be good for her health if we just jump right out and tell her what… we are, at the moment. I told her I was busy on Saturday… which I’m not… but she just won’t take no for an answer.’
‘Tell her I’m busy.’
Cherie blushed and then coughed, trying to ease her embarrassment, ‘Er… I sort of did.’
‘What did you say?’
‘You were feeding the ducks at an orphanage.’ Cherie mumbled quietly.
‘I was what? Sorry?’
‘You were feeding the ducks at an orphanage.’ Cherie mumbled loudly this time. Brody took some time to register what she said until he burst out laughing. Cherie looked up and Brody’s body was shaking from laughter, radiating off happiness.
‘Feed the ducks at an orphanage, really? Did she really believe that?’
‘Uh, well, maybe but she won’t take it. She wants you to come no matter what.’
Brody stopped his chuckles and thought, ‘Tell her I’m going to the hospital to see a friend. He’s in critical condition’
‘You are? Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! Why didn’t you tell me before? Just forget about this dinner, I’ll try to make up something’ Cherie exasperated, feeling guilty.
