Life seemed easier since that day.

I smiled often because I had every reason to do so; I laughed and felt happy. Fear and anxiety would try to sneak in, but I'd fight it and felt more confident than ever to confront my demons. It turned out all I needed had been a nudge from the man who could bring out the best in me: Derek Hensley.

As I watched him tightening the tie around his neck with his eyebrows furrowed in concentration, I couldn't help but feel thankful. In the past years, life had changed completely and for the better. Not a single doubt in my mind existed about the way things were turning out—this was meant to be.

Derek raised an eyebrow through the mirror, a nervous smirk playing on his lips when he saw me looking back at him. His disheveled hair and his playful green eyes made my heart flutter, but he couldn't hide the worry in the gaze I adored.

I walked up to him, standing between his body and the mirror, tying the knot to his tie and ignoring the way he looked at me. My cheeks heated, but I smiled regardless.

"It's going to be okay," I said with a knowing smile. "It's time for them to meet, you know that."

Derek nodded, catching my hands in his and kissing them. "Two different aspects of my life collide today," he explained, concern evident. "I know Evie wants to meet him, but Dylan has always fled. He left me when I was a kid. He left mom. I don't blame him and I'm used to him being in and out of my life, but Evie...I don't want him to abandon her too. It would hurt her."

The day had arrived for Dylan and Evie to meet, and though everyone was excited, Derek worried. He wanted to protect Evie yet couldn't deny her the right to meet the long lost brother they shared. And all I could do, was be there for all of them.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I kissed his lips softly...teasing. Enough for his hands to drop to my waist as he pulled me closer to him. I smiled, knowing he had little restraint. The past few days our kissing had become more intense, harder to control. We wanted to take things slow, but that didn't take away the need between us.

"I love this dress on you," he teased, nipping at my lower lip. "I like it better when it's off though." Derek lifted the hem of the dress up, his finger skimming the back of my legs, his beautiful eyes darkening.

Without giving me a chance to reply, Derek walked me back, his mouth returning to mine passionately. He took over, claiming my lips and my body and soul with the way he kissed me—like I was his oxygen. His reason for living.

Few things were better than the feeling of Derek losing control when he was around me. The man who used to hold back was long gone, and I loved it.
