QOTD: How would you describe 2018 in 1 word?
Awful.
Terrible.
Horrible.
Excruciating.
There were millions of words to describe the pain, yet none could fit the category of agony ache within your chest. Surprisingly, the spot where you were stabbed was completely unharmed with no sign of injury. Nothing made any sense.
Where are you now? You weren't exactly sure at the moment. One second ago, you bled out with the knife within your heart while Dark watches with a manic smile. Now, you're being practically squished by Nate's muscular arms as you lay on a hospital bed.
"N-Nate?" Your voice felt rough as the words came out of your dry, cold lips.
He abruptly lets you loose when he hears the limp body speak. His eyes were filled with such shock and relief.
"(Y/n)? I thought- You didn't respond and then you started yelling and I-"
You couldn't understand whatever he was talking about, so you stop him mid-sentence.
"Hang on. Just tell me what happened."
"You don't...remember anything?" You glance at the blanket covering your torso while shaking your head.
With a sigh, Nate explains the events at the interrogation,
"I was outside the room with Darling, waiting for you to finish up. Until...Mark tried to choke you. I tried to unlock the door but it was jammed shut. I didn't know he would have done something like this...He isn't usually like this.
Anyway, he disappeared with a blink of an eye. You were laying on the ground with some weird black foam coming out of your mouth. And you were shouting some stuff I couldn't hear.
Darling got the door open with the paramedics and rushed you to the hospital."
From what you know, Mark must have put you within a dream sequence to possibly convince you to take his side. It would have been easier inside somebody's brain than telling their master plan in front of a cop.
"I still have to help you find Christina. She's your girlfriend and I made a promise." You proceed to sit up on the thin mattress.
He attempts to push you back against the bed, instead you hold onto his arm and plead,
"I know you're going to say no, but hear me out. Please, I need to put an end to these families' missing children."
"...Fine. But I'm coming with you for once."
You were expecting a defensive argument instead of his permission.
"Really?"
Nate nods while keeping a tight grip on your police jacket in a comforting way. "I trust you."
Without second thoughts, you pull your companion into your fragile arms. A feeling you never wanted to get rid of. He then returns the hug before letting you get your things together.
The only things you've kept on this journey are your phone and other layers of clothes long forgotten. A rush of fear travels through your veins when you suddenly look back at the spot where the mysterious foe burnt the skin. The lost feeling still made a faint tingling sensation when your thighs rubbed against your pants.
Despite training to be in the police department, you felt completely unprepared to face on whatever lies ahead.
The kind soul turns to you, "So, how will we find the source?"
Your fingertips slide across the smooth material inside your jacket as you hold it out to Nate. He stares intently at it with great will and hope for his long lost love. It was Dark's knife. You give your companion a sly smirk when his head rises.
"I have my ways."
