It was silent in the car. A little too silent. Hayes looked a bit nervous. He was frantically holding on to the wheel and looking out the window for a split second then back to the road.
"Hayes are you ok?" I ask, half laughing.
"Yeah." he nods his head.
"You seem a bit nervous." I say.
"I'm fine"
"Ok." I roll my eyes knowing he's lying. "So where are we going?" I ask.
"Dinner."
"Yeah, but where?"
" Here." He says as he pulls up into a big fancy hotel.
"Royal Guards Hotel?" I read the sign.
"Yup." he popped the p as he parked the car.
He got out and opened the door for me as he helped me out. I held onto his arm as we walked it.
He wasn't kidding about fancy. The whole place looked like a palace. The hostess guy even had a British accent.
"Grier, two?" Hayes told him.
"Right this way sir." He guided us to the dining area.
There were mostly older couples there. Older than us like maybe 30s to 60s. He sat us down at a table for two and handed us the menus.
"Is this ok?" Hayes asked me as I scan through the menu.
"Yeah." I look up and our eyes meet.
"Well what looks good?" he broke our stare after a few minutes.
"Uh, the Alfredo pasta and Cesar salad." I say.
"Same." he scrunches his nose.
The waiter cam back with our waters and we ordered the food. We awkwardly sat there while we waited.
"So." Hayes caught my attention. "Did you like your birthday at Chuck E. Cheese?" he smirked.
"Yeah, it was fun." I answer.
"That's good." he awkwardly nodded.
Our food came and we are in silence then Hayes asked me about how I was going in school.
Before we finished he asked me a really stupid question.
"So are you and um, Aaron like, dating?"
I started to laugh. he had a serious face on though.
"You think if I was dating Aaron, I would come out to dinner with you? No I'm not dating him." I laugh.
"Well it seems like it." he took a sip of his water.
"Why? because he's always calling me babe and hugging me?"
He nods and has a 'duh' on his face.
"Ok. We'll are we done?" I ask.
He looks at me.
"I didn't mean it in a rude way it's just that, uh, sorry." I stutter.
"It's ok. but yeah let's go." he laughs.
The waiter gave us out check as Hayes paid. We left and I thought we would go back to the car but Hayes went to the front desk and he had reservations for the penthouse suite.
"Shall we?" Hayes pointed towards the elevator.
"I don't have any clothes." I say.
"I have some up there. You can borrow it." he smiled.
