Chapter 4: Cross My Heart

Clara's P.O.V.

I started walking away from the Palette Meeting Room.

Mr. Rubin was there, waiting for me.

"I'm sorry I had to be a little late Mr. Rubin!" I apologized. "I had to help.... A friend. Even if it was suposed to.be my free day today....I'm sorry.

"No worries Ms. Rose." He nodded.

We went in the limo.

A few seconds after leaving the school parking lot, I spotted Bernadine.

"Hey, what's Bernadine doing?" I asked myself. "OMG, she's got left by the bus! Mr. Rubin, please stop the limo, my friend got left by the bus."

"Hey Bernadine!" I waved. "Hop on!"

"You own a limo?" She asked, suddenly.

"Please, don't tell everyone." I whispered. "I'm a Von Pelt."

"You're the daughter of Peter Von Pelt!" She gasped.

"I never told anyone." I hushed. "It's because well.... I didn't want everyone to pretend to be nice to me."

An Akward silence came after.

"Where is your house?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"Uh, just drop me off here, I know my way from here." She said.

Wow, that's nice of her to offer to walk.

"Okay. Mr.Rubin please stop the limo, thank you." I asked.

The limo stopped and She hopped off.

"Thanks Clara!" She thanked.

"No problem! And don't tell anyone! Promise?" I pleaded.

"Cross my heart." She promised. "I won't let it spill."

I closed the door and told Mr. Rubin to start the car.

"Why don't you like being treated with great deference?" Mr. Rubin asked me.

"Because, I want them to treat me by the way they see me, not by my status." I said. "Anyways, I guess people treat me fine, being a teacher's pet and all. Sometimes, I just don't get why people need to know how rich someone is."

"You're parents will surely tell though, Ms. Rose." He told me.

"I've been preparing for that outcome Mr. Rubin." I told him. "All the details just aren't sorted out yet."

"Sorry for being a stalker, is it how you call it Ms. Rose?" He apologized. "I just feel sorry for you, and I would want to help."

"Thanks for trying Mr. Rubin." I reassured. "But I think that I there's nothing anyone can do to stop them from knowing, I trust Bernadine but, her heart is quite pure and loving, I think her brother will be her weakness, for she will surely do anything for her brother. I wouldn't blame her if she spills the beans because of her brother, her brother after all, is in the dishonest hands of Bea Crown, who, I fear, is my worst enemy.

"I understand Ms. Rose." Mr. Rubin nodded.

I sigh.

"I have a feeling that Bea Crown is on to me." I said once more.

"We're here!" Mr. Rubin said, in a cheerful, but deep tone.

"Yes we are." I smiled.

"Clara!" My dad greeted me. "I have something to talk to you about."

I knew it, the thing I've been anticipating, it's coming.
