Chapter 8: The Promise
Bernadine's P.O.V.
"She's right, Clara was right all along. My brother is in the wrong hands, I was just to blind to see it. She's never going to forgive me after this." I told myself, banging my head on my locker.
"Hey Bernadine." Clara waved.
Oh freak, she's here.
I turned to her.
"Hi Clara!" I said, voice breaking.
I cleared my throat.
"So, Uhmm, I'd like to join the Gemstones during the field trip." I fake smiled.
"Wouldn't you want to join your fellow clique mates?" She asked. "I mean, it's fine that you join us, but you might want to get to know them more."
"No it's fine, there's just something I have to do." I replied.
"Sure! There's no crime in joining us." She smiled.
"Only I'm the one doing the crime." I muttered to myself.
"What was that?" She asked, curious of what I said.
"Nothing." I smiled.
She raised a curious brow.
"Remember that promise." She reminded
I gulped.
"How could I forget?" I said, nervously.
"No reason." She smiled innocently.
"I won't forget, ever." I promised.
"But it's doesn't matter if you forget it or not." She pressed. "It matters if you keep your word and it matters if you don't break your promise."
"I will.... Not." I said cautiously.
"Will not what?" She said, her tone turning harsh.
"W-will not break the promise." I said, my tone trembling.
"Well, you'd better keep your promise." She said, her voice turning soft. "I trust in you, remember that, I trusted you."
"Or else." She added.
She walked away.
I had just met a whole new Clara.
