Matt's POV:
I run through the woods with Hunter and Daniel flanking me. Nate, Caleb, Chase, and my beta were missing. Where the hell were they?! They had been missing a lot lately. Sure, they had other lives, but when it came to being with the pack, they were always here too. I let out a long howl to let them know that they needed to get their asses over to the meeting.
A council meeting was being held. I had to get there to attend since I was alpha, but we would all attend the tribe meeting later on. I ran faster as I knew I was coming to the clearing. It felt so good to be in wolf form. The power and control. I felt the need to protect my pack and my tribe. It was my job. I was alpha.
I wasn't born alpha of the Wildern Heights pack. Abbigail Johnson was, but she had abandoned her tribe--her pack. She had left in the middle of the night while another pack came to attack. The pack had killed a few, but they didn't inflict too much damage. Abbigial Johnson was never seen again. I remember waking up that morning. I was not part of the pack, but I was part of the tribe. Not many knew that I had the alpha mark--I didn't tell anyone. I had met Abbigail once for a moment. She had made a connection with me, and our links were bound just like the rest of the pack and tribe to the alpha.
I woke up that morning to an empty gap in my soul. We all knew she had left. We didn't believe it at first, but we knew it was true. I had felt so much pain. I walked around aimlessly for days just because of the feeling I had in my heart that something was missing. Everyone felt it. Anyone who had met Abbigail felt it.
The pack searched for her for days, weeks even. They never found her. It's been two years already anyways. She was probably killed for being a rouge...I ended up becoming alpha because of my mark. I could tell that Chase wasn't very happy. The position should have gone to him, but he never said anything about it.
We reach the clearing, and I skid to a stop. Hunter and Daniel slide behind me. We get ourselves together before waiting for the rest of the guys. A twig snaps next to me. I look over to see Chase, Nate, and Jake walk out of the shadowy forest. They all get in a v-formation behind me--Jake at my side. Caleb comes through the clearing a little later. Where had he been? Guess it doesn't matter.
'Ready to go guys?' I ask.
'Yes, alpha,' they all reply.
I begin to walk around the side of the meeting house which was a large log house covered by moss and vines to the point you could barely tell it was there. Many council and tribe members stand around. They all stop talking and watch us as our pack makes our way through the crowd which bends and opens for us to get through.
We were a powerful pack. We were one.
Quin Johnson, Abbigail's father, stands near the door. He bows his head before smiling. I nod and take off into the house to change. The rest of the guys stay there. They wait for me. I throw on some shorts, but I don't bother with a shirt--none of us do. When I get back, the rest of the pack has also changed. I walk over to Quin.
"Hello, Matt," he says. I nod my head back. "So how have things been today?"
Interesting question. My mind immediately thought of that kiss. The new girl...there was something about her, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. She seemed...I don't know. That kiss though, it had been amazing. I had kissed her mainly because I thought she had been jealous that morning of Katie, but she wasn't. She very easily told me just how much she didn't like me.
It hurt too. Not like when other girls dismissed me--which never happened. No, it was different with the new girl. I still didn't even know her name. Maybe I could ask her out on a date... No. I never did that.
"It was...fine," I lie. Quin smiles warmly at me.
"We'd better get inside," he says. "They'll be starting soon."
I agreed, and the rest of the tribe and pack stayed outside while the council came in to discuss things first. I tried to listen, but all I could think about was dark hair that smelt like oranges and soul-piercing pale blue eyes that sparkled with gold...

Abbigail's POV:
I reach the clearing where the pack house is. My wolf form is alert and ready for anything. I do not make a sound. The council meeting had ended quite awhile ago, and the tribe meeting had started. I lay down in the bushes and feel the soft, moist grass rub against my belly. Tribe members start pouring out of the meeting house doors. My father would be coming out soon.
Would he look different? Would he be sad? Would he hate me?
A twig snaps to my left, and I look over my shoulder to see Caleb coming up behind me. He gives me a toothy grin--still in his human form.
'Hey,' he says through the link.
'Caleb.' I nod back.
We wait in comfortable silence as he sits next to me to watch the steady flow of tribe members talking and laughing as they exit the building. I see Matt walk out. He turns slightly to reveal the person behind him.
The man had ebony hair, short as a wink. It's speckled with grey like a dark night's sky, and clearly wethered from time. The man's blown eyes change like leaves during the fall--from dark brown to a dark green. My father.
I tense as he draws near. What would I say? I'll have to wait until he's away from everyone else. He waves to Matt as the pack starts to head back into the woods. Caleb whimpers, but he follows suit. He has to. Matt is alpha.
My father starts to head back into the meeting house. I listen carefully and search each room with my advanced hearing. No one's home. I come out from the underbrush and make my way to the door. Maybe it will be easier for him to see me in wolf form. Plus, if all fails it will be easier to run away.
I get up to the opened door and take it paw by paw until I reach the meeting room--a room filled with benches and seats with a platform in the middle for the head of the council. I watch as my father inspects each row, thinking to himself. I let out a small bark.
His head whips in my direction, and he stares, terrified at my form. I look down at myself. So maybe he didn't recognize me. I had gone through a lot of changes... I quickly turn just around the corner so he can't see me. I stand up on my hind legs and think of my human form. The fur begins to go away, and my spine contorts until I am standing on two human feet. I had been wearing a baggy shirt and shorts before I got here, so this is what I have to wear now... I had carried it with me. My hair would have been up in a pony tail, but I had to take it out to shift.
"My god," my father gasps. I take a step forward, and he takes one back.
"It's me, papa," I whisper. I feel like a traitor just coming back here. His eyes go wide. He slumps back into a seat not too far away from where I stand. He rubs his chin.
"How?" he breathes.
"There's a long story," I say, hoping that he will still love me. "I need you to listen..."
He looks so pained whenever I talk. I broke his heart. I made mother pass away. Everything that happened was because of me. If I hadn't been alpha, the Dark Mountain pack wouldn't have come here...
"You abandoned us," he whispers. "You were supposed to be the savior of our pack..."
What?
"What do you mean?" I ask. "What savior?" He looks a bit shocked like he was surprised at what he said.
"I think we need to have a talk," he says. "You should tell your story now."
