Bucky's POV:
I was eating some pancakes my mother made when I heard a knock on the door. I jump up, stumbling to the front door."James, oh James." My mother sighs, following me.
I grin up at her, twisting the door knob to reveal the person on the other side. To our surprise, it was someone new in town. Her eyes flicker from the ground, to me, smiling politely and then up to my mother.
"Hello, my name's Sarah. Sarah Rogers." She extends a hand, my mom takes it and shakes.
"Hi, I'm Winifred Barnes."
Sarah clears her throat, pulling back her hand. "We're new in this part of town, we just moved in down the street."
"We?" My mother questions, looking slightly past Sarah's shoulders, expecting someone else to be there.
Her eyes light up, "Oh! Yes, this is my son." She steps to the side, revealing a small, frail looking boy. He clings to his mothers side, slowly looking up. He has golden blond hair and blue ocean eyes. A smile creeps on my face.
"Go on, Steven. Introduce yourself." She says pushing him forward a little.
"H-Hi. I'm Steve." He mumbles, directing his eyes at the ground.
"I'm Bucky." I say, reaching out a hand for him to shake. He looks up, a slight smile appears on his face as he does the same.
"Oh, how rude of me." My mom says, pulling the door open more. "Come in, come in."
Sarah smiles and nods as her and Steve walk in.
My eyes light up with excitement, "Here, follow me!" I say, turning to jolt up the stairs. Steve grins, and tries to catch up with me. He's much slower and smaller than me, but I choose not to mention it.
"Kids." I hear my mother say, with a chuckle. She leads Sarah to the kitchen.
I open my door and sit on my bed, Steve walks in after me but far more slowly and his eyes are all over the room.
"Wow.. this is your room??" He asked, breathless. I couldn't tell if it was from running up the stairs or if he was just taken aback.
Hmm.. maybe both, I think.
He was still taking in his surroundings. Finally our eyes met.
"Yeah, ye-"
—
"Bucky..?"
I snapped out of my trance, realizing there was a pair of concerned, blue eyes staring me down.
"Yeah?" I say.
"Are you okay..?" Steve asks.
I smile, "Of course, just thinking."
"Oh." His eyes flicker to the floor, back to me. "About?"
About the day I met you. About us.
"Uh.. pancakes." I respond, sorta reassuring.
For a second, he looked dismayed. But then his lips moved,
"Only you, Buck. Only you." He chuckles.
I felt his gaze regard back to the floor.
I study his face for a second, noticing the way his lips curve when he laughs or smiles and his eyes crinkle yet sparkle with amusement.
He's so pure.
I snap myself out of my gaze before he realizes. Clearing my throat I say,
"Hey, Stevie."
"Hmm?" He responds, slowly directing his gaze at me.
"Do you remember the day we met?" I ask, furrowing my brows.
He blinks. "Of course I do, Buck. I was so nervous, I hid behind my mom. Remember?" He smiles, looking up slightly, as if the memory was playing right above his head.
"How could I forget?" I retort, "But you didn't really have to hide, you were so small I probably wouldn't of seen you." I smirk.
His blue eyes, quickly drop back down to meet mine. "Jerk." He mumbles, grinning.
"Punk." I chuckle. "I can't believe we've been friends for 7 years."
He smiles, "Yeah. We were like, what? Eight? When we first met."
"No no, you were eight. I was nine." I proudly say.
He rolls his eyes, "You'll always hang that over my head, won't you?"
"Well, Im sixteen now and not a damn thing has changed." I grin at him.
"I-" He gets cut off.
"Steven, James!" Sarah calls, "Dinner!"
—
"Thank you, ma'am." I say after I finished eating.
She smiles kindly, "You're very welcome, James."
I smile back, while she gets up & takes our dirty dishes to the sink. As she walks away, I direct my gaze at Steve. He's zoned out, staring out the window.
Steve's POV:
I can feel Bucky's gaze on me.
I don't meet it though.
I'm scared.
I'm scared he can see right through my eyes and into how I feel.
It's December, the sun is already setting and there's fading pink streaks on the sky. But mixed with a dark blue. It's an overcoming darkness. Kinda like.. something else that envelopes you. Takes you under completely. Leaving you,, suffering for air. Im getting off track, but now the stars are starting to twinkle. I hear him mumble something, snapping me out of it."What?" I ask, turning and meeting his stare.
He looks surprised.
"Oh..nothing." He responds, looking down at his fidgeting hands.
"C'mon, Buck. Don't lie to your best pal." I say, holding my gaze steady on him.
"I'm just tired." He responds.
Bucky's POV:
Really, I was tired. So I wasn't completely, erm.. lying. And although, I feel his eyes fixated on me. I force myself not to look up."Lets go to bed then." He says.
I finally look up and see his piercing blue eyes on me, he's slightly smiling.
"Alright." I yawn back.
He gets up and heads to his room. I follow, right behind him. He gives me some pajamas and he goes to the bathroom to change, leaving me to do so I'm here. Once he walks back in, i'm already lying on the floor by his bed. Pulling a raggedy blanket over me.
He smiles, "Goodnight, Buck."
I close my eyes, as he climbs in his bed. "G'night, Stevie." I respond, already half asleep.
