ADELAINE HURRIEDLY WALKED THROUGH THE STREETS, combing through the wet strands of her orange hair impatiently. She slept through her alarm and woke up at 9 am. Adelaine didn't want to be late for the first day of her cleaning job at Constance's house so she ate a piece of bread and showered as fast as she could. She let out a tired sigh before she knocked on the door, the old woman quickly opening it as Adelaine stood with a smile on her face.

"Right on time, Adelaine," Constance told her as the woman opened the door wider, "Come in,"

For some reason, the old woman was in a better mood that day. The bitterness still lingered around Adelaine's tongue as she licked her lips, but there was the hint of sweetness that she was a bit happy for.

"I have errands to run this morning so you will have the house to yourself," Constance said while grabbing her cigarettes and inserting it in her small purse, "You can leave once you're done; the payment's on top of the fridge, in the white envelope. I'll be home in three hours so you'll probably still be here," The woman grabbed her arm firmly, looking into her brown eyes, "Remember what I told you. Don't go upstairs and don't bother my grandson, okay?"

Goosebumps appeared on the back of her neck as she nodded her head, "Yeah, yeah, of course,"

"Good," Constance pulled out a cigarette from her purse, lighting it up, before she left the house.

When the woman was gone, Adelaine let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She was a bit creeped out at Constance's warning, if she was being honest. The rare amount of times she watched horror movies, "the don't go upstairs" part got to her, like she was the curious girl who didn't listen and still wondered upstairs, only to get eaten by the monster living there. She knew she was curious, but she will respect Constance's number one rule, for her own safety, in case a monster does live up there.

With the woman gone, Adelaine got to appreciate Constance's house more. She knew the walls were in pastel colors, but she didn't notice how it was pleasing to the eyes. There was minimal furniture, but it suited the calming interior of the inside. Sighing, Adelaine grabbed a broom and began sweeping the floors. She heard the sound of feet thudding against the floor from upstairs, but she decided to ignore it. It must be Constance's grandson whom she cannot bother. It took her thirty minutes to sweep the entire first floor. Adelaine grabbed the mop then began mopping the floors, careful not to miss a spot. She heard more noises from upstairs, her curiosity increasing as more seconds passed.
