How Much He Means To Me

Chapter 6

I was lost in my pathetic thoughts oblivious of everything else around me. I didn't even know when Lori walked in. She tapped me lightly which got me startled and brought me back to reality.

She usually was always smiling but this time, it seemed like a mask. Sadness was written in her eyes. The eyes really are the reflection of the soul. She was a stronger person emotionally and usually was able to lift up people's spirits. She's also very smart and creative. Little wonder Nathan's madly in love with her. I and Jace with Nathan and her usually double dated. We have many memories we share. Good memories.

'Chlo! I thought you were never going to wake up' she said smiling.
'You looked cute though. I would have taken a picture if not that Nathan opposed me but I sure have a picture up here' she continued now using the tip of her finger to double tap the side of her head.

Swinging her head to get her hair out of her face, she made to sit beside me. I adjusted to create room for her to sit so she could be comfortable.
The blanket was still draped over me but just from my waist downward. She took off her shoe and stretched her leg on the bed.

'These hospital beds are really wide. Seemed to be made for too slim people' I thought. Hhmm.... She smelt nice. I think it's vanilla. Or maybe it's her shampoo.
Note to self Make sure to ask her later'. I rambled on in my head.

I think all this thoughts zapped through my mind in just a second.
I just felt warmth against my head. Looking up, twas the back of Lori's palm against my forehead and she aksed 'how are you feeling now' and don't go cliché telling me "fine". Really how are you' she probed with a look of concern and a sweet smile.

I really didn't even know how I felt. It was an incomprehensible feeling. Mostly incoherent. I felt lost, confused, in a daze, like all this wasn't real and maybe if I pinch my self I could come back to reality. It's just been a day and it's been sooooo long. 'I guess am okay' I said.

'Okay' she said clapping her hand lightly. 'That food is not going to consume itself. Eat up!'
We chatted about random things but avoiding " the topic" while I tried to eat. I actually bare ate anything but I downed the bottle of juice.

Later on, we just sat in silence and watched the TV. He arm was over my shoulder. I was resting against the bed like that and I think it must have been uncomfortable for her, but she didn't say anything. She changed the channel to one showing a movie by Kevin hart. That dude sure is funny. But my brain at that point didn't register humour. I hardly giggled. Lori was laughing though occasionally turning to look at me.

Some time later, Nathan returned with a receipt in hand. His voice was what really drew my attention to the fact that he had returned and was standing there.
'I have paid the bills and the Doctor said you can go home now, but you just need to rest and take things easy. I had Lori bring you a change of clothes while you were asleep. Just freshen up and Lori put her things together so we can leave. I'll be waiting in the lobby so take tour time. Do you need anything?'

I shook my head and looked at him gratefully. I hope he got the eye-messge though.

I got down from the bed and almost regretted my haste. Not that I was in a hurry though. My legs were wobbly and Lori was quickly at my side to support me. I felt alright in a few seconds though and told her not to worry.

Headed for the bathroom, I got my toiletries that Lori had brought. The shampoo was looking strange. I had a puzzled look trying to recall if I had purchased that particular brand. She must have been paying attention to me as she said
'Oh! That's mine'. So I was Right. It was her shampoo that smelt so nice. 'When I checked your bathroom, all your toiletries were in substantial amount but your shampoo was almost exhausted'.
I gave a quick nod and headed for the bathroom.
She was already putting all my belongings together in a bag.

Such amazing people I have in my life.
