Chapter 14: jealous?

I had only slept for at least three or four hours before I woke up. Still thinking about one single thing, Astrid.

After being gone for four years I expected things to be different, for things to have changed. I mean a lot has changed, I saw that Astrid and the gang had made a lot of improvements to the village since I've been gone. Although as always I may still make a few tweaks.

I had tweaked my pegged leg over the years, just the same as I had made inferno. I now had two different stages for it which I could choose between, flight, to help me fly more smoothly and freely, so that it doesn't really weigh me down or make me uneven when I glide. Or there is just my peg leg for walking. Both which if course come in handy.

I could also lock up Toothless' tail now, which meant that he could fly, but only straight forward no turns or speeding up, on his own. This was normally used when I solo-glided using my new flight suit. Also could be used in attack, sneaky but cunning.

I heard three knocks on my door. I groaned and got up. I began to put on my shoulder armour and boots as I answered.

"come in," I hear the door creak open. I'm going to have to fix that, it's very annoying, just add that to the list.

"Hey Hiccup," I fall back onto my bed realising that it wasn't my dad like I had expected it to be. He would be the one who normally came in my room with the early 'talk' breaking my thoughts and dreams.

"er, A-astrid, w-what are you doing here?" I ask her embarrassed, I get up off of the bed and brush myself off, pretending that nothing just happened.

"it's training," she says blankly. I facepalm. Oh great, I overslept, I'm late and on the first day too.

"I'm sorry..." I tell her apologetically.

"no worries," she says plainly. "I'll be outside, just do what you need to do," she says before leaving me in my now deafeningly silent room. I can tell that she's still mad, I can't believe that she still remembers that! I guess she knows how to hold a grudge.

I grab my spare knife slotting into it's sheath on my arm. I grab inferno and place it behind my back, just in case, you never know when you might need it. I don't forget to grab my helmet before exiting my room and walking outside.

"you ready?" she asks me. I give her a nod hopping on Toothless before I hear someone calling my name.

"Hey... Hiccup!" I hear the all too familiar accent.

"Merida, I thought that you would have gone home by now," I stated.

"nah, I thought tha' I'd stay for a while," she replies.

"Ok, but what about your parents?" I ask her.

"they don' need ma, they'll be fine, so where ya headin'?"

"just the training arena," I reply.

"yeah that's where we train dragons, nothing for a princess there," Astrid cuts in, she sounds kind of angry, is she jealous?

"can I come?" she asks me.

"su-" I begin but I am cut off by Astrid again,

"I don't think someone of your standards would want to go there," she says.

"but I do," she replies plainly to her. She then turns her attention back to me and smiles. "can I 'iccup?" she asks me.

"I don't see why not, hop on," I tell her. I see Astrid roll her eyes. I smirk at this and pat Toothless' side before heading off to the arena, boy this is going to be a long day...
