[1 MONTH TIME SKIP]

I stared out into deep forest surrounding the university. Then I tilted my head to see a small highway next to the university. Looks like a city was close this whole time. I didn't wanna say anything though, nor could I. I was tired, hopeless, and on the verge of depression. I sat on a slightly muddy bed in a dorm room, dirtied from my stained converses. It goes to show how useless I've been ever since the incident a month ago. Nothing has changed, which is good because I'm not usually a fan of change. I like everything going the way I'm used to. Fortunately, no bandits have attacked just yet, I would be a waste in a battle. It's just been calm for a while. Bliss, it's nice. It gives me a smile. When we can just close our eyes and forget everything. That's what I like. It's peaceful.

"K- Kate?" I looked up to see Andy giving a warm smile. He was so nice to me, even when I was such a useless mess. He was like the father figure I never had. I forced myself out of bed and I walked through the hallways with him. The paint slowly losing colours kind of represented my mood right now. I was led to a small little picnic area outside, Kara was pacing in a panicked way. I saw bullet shells scattered around the area. "Bandits." I whispered, "They're giving hints at a return." The sun was setting over the horizon as I inspected a shell, fresh. Last night fresh.

"Bandits were here last night." I mumbled.
"Yeah, looks like the barbed wire wasn't helping. Not even one blood stain was anywhere." Andy explained.
"Ok, we're having serious issues! Food is running low, these shells are appearing, and ammo is disappearing." Jason said, walking out from the building.
"Bandits. They're stealing and giving hints. They're itching for a fight." I added.
"Well, that's what we're giving those twats." Kara said.
"No. No, we have to get more supplies before anything. It's most necessary." Jason added.

And at once, the arguing begun. I'll save you the details, it's like all arguing. One side is reasonable, another is reasonable. Pick your poison. "Fine. I'll stay here and hold down the base, all of you scavenge. I'll settle with that." Kara said. Jason agreed and all of a sudden everyone but Kara was treading along a highway, directed towards a large construction site. "I'm going back for more supplies there, it was a goldmine. Hopefully, those bandits won't have taken it over." Jason sighed.

"Yay. A real mission. Exciting!" Saddie smiled. "Well, your gonna stay close behind me." Andy assured. Saddie nodded. As the group walked, they passed a large city, catching the eyes of Saddie and Eddie. They saw a silhouette on the rooftops, making them grow suspicious. They both thought. At some point they had been left behind by the unknowing group, and ventured into the city to scavenge for things there. No warning the others at all, they just knew something was up.

The most of them arrived at the large construction site. Megan spotted a few backpacks tied to the very top and edge of a tall yellow crane. "They like challenges, huh?" Jason snickered. We entered the site, seeing at the large machines. I silently wondered what they must've been building. It was on the coast, so that gave small clues. It was saddening how much their work has gone to waste. I looked out of my deep thought. Jason has started climbing the crane. Andy and Megan yelled for him to get down, before he fell to his imminent death. Before anything, Megan began following him to bring him down. Well, crap.

I hesitated before finally following Megan up. The farther I went, I felt the more uneasy. What am I doing? I looked down to see an Andy following. We're all insane. It's official.
