As I climb up the tall building's staircase, I grip the note tighter. The building is an old shoe company that's been abandoned. It's perfect, really.
Tears stain my face and eyes, red rings in the whites of them. "Great." I mutter to myself, my steps quickening. As I reach the top, my heart races. I sigh softly, walking to the edge. I see everyone below me. They look so small from here. "I'm sorry..." I whisper, setting the note down on the ledge as I climb onto it.
I see someone had already noticed me. I smile, a little happy they get to see my last moments. I can almost see the terroir in their eyes as they shout at me, grabbing everyone's attention around them. They notice me too.
All this attention. Strange how something I've longed for the most is something I thought I'd never fear until now. I was so preoccupied with myself that I hadn't even noticed a few people calling for help on their cellphones. Two, from what I can see, were recording me. Of course.
I look down. It's a smaller jump than I anticipated, but that's okay. It'll obviously get the job done.
