I made dinner since my parents were gonna be coming home late tonight as usual. The Arctic is a few hours away on a ship and they usually worked pretty late. I started to set up the table as Carus played with a tablet mom gave her.
"You know it's for reading right Carus?" I asks giggling a little. Carus wasn't really a fan of reading.
"I don't know what you mean. It wouldn't have games on it if it was for reading." Carus says pawing at the screen. It had little creatures running on the screen that she needed to hit.
"That's just cause you got dad to hack into it for you when mom was busy." I say getting a bowl for Carus. I set it on the table in front of her bench.
"Yeah so what? I still get to play games." Her ears perked up when she heard someone outside. Her tail started to wag. "They're here!" She quickly hid the tablet.
"Mom is going to catch you one day." I say shaking my head. I look at the front door remembering what Carus said. Her parents found something in the Arctic.
I watch my mom walk in holding her bag. She looks pretty exhausted as usual as she steps inside. She sets her bag by the door and walks into the dining room. "Hey Vitrea, thanks for making dinner." She says tired.
"You're welcome Mom. Carus said you found something so work today." I say smiling. I keep my voice low worried she might have a headache. She got them a lot in the cold.
My mom nods a little. "We found a large cave full of Ardor gems. It has some cave paints in it. Your dad says the cave paintings show Mavor's getting powers from the cave... He stayed to look them over." She sat down at the table and started to eat her food.
I listened as she explained it in awe. I know my dad is a little biased but still. If it's true I might be able to get some powers. Mom obviously wasn't so hopeful. She had given up on me getting powers. I understood why though. I can't produce Ardor and that's the foundation of powers.
"Okay Mom. Do you need anything? I could get you some medicine if you want." I say noticing she was shielding her eyes from the light. The Arctic was very dark and Mom had gotten used to it. That probably didn't help the headaches.
She nods a little. "That would be great... How did your appointment go today?" She asks exhaustion lacing her voice. That was the main reason she wasn't on the field. She was very susceptible to mental powers when she was tired.
"It went okay. The tests should come back in a few days. The doctor gave me an Ardor gem to see if it does anything." I say handing her the medicine.
"That's good... I know it's hard for you but... You need to look for something to do if you don't get any powers..." She said softly.
She wasn't really one to follow fantasies. She knew I wouldn't be able to join the military without a power and that powers don't just magically appear.
