Why did you let him convince you to do this?

You were standing on top of a roof in the darkness with Spider-Man standing next to you. As you looked down from the ledge at the rush of cars passing by, your heart dropped You took a step back in fear.

"Peter, this is insane! I'm not doing this!," you said.

"Aw, c'mon, (Y/N). It's not that bad. I do it all the time!"

You once joked about how you wished to web-swing just like Peter when he told you about his Spider-Man duties. Oh boy, you should never have said that. As soon as you did, Peter leapt off the sofa and ran you up to the roof.

Web-swinging was so much fun in Peter's opinion, which is why he was so excited for you to try it out. Unfortunately for you, you had a terrible fear of heights. Or just falling to your death, to be more accurate.

"Pete, I was joking. Don't make me do this," you said, a frightful tone in your voice.

Peter looked back at you and noticed how your whole body seemed to shake. It was dark and you were hugging yourself from the cold. His smile faded underneath his mask seeing you at such a frightful state.

"Oh. Oh no, babe, I'm sorry." He pulled off his mask and stepped towards you. "Um, we don't, we don't have to do this, you know. Gosh, I'm sorry. I just....I just thought it would be fun."

And at that moment you felt bad for letting your fear get the best of you. Guilty and embarrassed for getting scared. Peter seemed so ecstatic over web-swinging with you and you ruined it.

He looked at you, hoping you would catch his gaze. You were only able to stare at the spider emblem on his chest, not wanting to look him in the eye for fear that he would see just how scared and embarrassed you were.

"It's okay if you don't want to do this," Peter began, "Um, maybe we can go back inside and watch a movie or something."

As comforting as that sounded.....it didn't. Peter sounded so excited to take you web-swinging and you backed out. You got scared and you backed out. Letting your thoughts get the best of you, you thought about how he probably thinks you're too afraid for anything else besides watching the same old movie in your living room. You probably won't even watch a PG-13 movie because you were so scared.

You hated the thought of feeling so afraid that you wouldn't try anything new. If you went inside instead of going web-swinging with Peter, you knew you would regret it. You would end up living with that same fear of heights for the rest of your life. And that wasn't what you wanted.

"No."

Peter's eyes snapped back up to you. "No?"

You finally made your way to his eyes and in as strong as your shaky voice could muster said, "I'll do it."

"Do.....what?" he asked.

"I'll do the web-swinging-thing."

You made your way around Peter and stepped towards the ledge. The same feeling crept up in your stomach. The same feeling of worry and fear. But you shook it off as best as you could.

"(Y/N), you don't have to do this if you don't want to," Peter said, approaching you. "I get it. You don't want to do it. It's okay. We'll go back inside and—"

But you cut him off.

"No, I can do it." You gave him a slightly-unconvincing smile. "I want to, okay? I mean, like you said, It'll be fun."

Peter gave you a questioning look. You were so scared before, almost about to cry and now all of a sudden you just wanted to do it? He figured you were just trying to be brave for him—not that he was complaining. The way you smiled sweetly at him was enough for him to agree.

"Um, okay I guess," he said, pulling his mask back on and pulling you closer to him. "You sure?"

"Yeah, yeah. I'm sure." You looked over once again and felt your stomach drop. You gulped. "If I die, you can have all my Star Wars plushies."

Peter chuckled. You wrapped your arms around him and gave him a quiet, "I'm ready."

The wind howled, making you shudder. Faint noises from the streets below echoed as you let out a breath of nervousness.

"You're sure about this?" he asked. "Because we can always—"

"Nope! Too late! Let's go before I faint."

And before you knew it, you were lifted off the ground and swinging around New York with Peter holding onto you with one arm and the other shooting webs at nearby buildings. You yelped at the sudden pull in your body. The wind blew your hair all over the place but that was the least of your worries.

Your stomach felt the same queasiness as before, if not, even more so. You held on to Peter for dear life and your eyes were shut tight at the feeling, worried that if you opened them you would fall to your death.

Peter could feel you tense up. "You okay, (Y/N)?"

You muttered a small, "Mhmm."

The wind was blowing in your face and it was all you could hear besides the noises from the rushing cars below you. You buried your head into Peter's shoulder, praying to God that you wouldn't fall.

Don't fall. Don't fall. DO NOT FALL.

As Peter continued to swing, you soon got used to the uneasy feeling in your stomach. It wasn't as bad as before but still present.

"Hey, open your eyes. It's more fun that way," he said.

Taking his advice, you slowly opened your eyes, fighting against the wind blowing into your face. You could see the darkness of night. And blurry white lights from buildings and cars. You could see how far up in the air you were. The queasiness came back in full force so you held on even tighter than before. You could see the streets and the few people walking around. If you didn't focus on the whole 'falling to your death' thing, It felt like you were flying.

You then looked up at Peter, his masked eyes focused on where he was swinging to next. You didn't know what it was, but something felt....right. Him holding onto you and swinging around the neighborhood. The feeling in your stomach remained, but it was no longer from web-swinging.

Feeling more at ease, you relaxed in his grip and just watched as you both flew. Peter beamed and said, "This isn't so bad, right?"

You couldn't help but giggle.

Peter shot his web at a building and leapt over it, landing on the roof. He straightened himself up then glanced down at you, still holding on to him. "You can let go now," he said, a hint of glee in his voice.

"Oh, sorry," you said, stepping down. You took a step back to fix your hair. "That was...fun."

"Really? So you're not scared anymore?"

"I—I don't think so." Looking over the edge, you could see just how far you both traveled. The city's lights were still shining and the cars were still racing by. You didn't fall. Or die. Peter held onto you the entire time. "I'm sorry for getting scared earlier."

"No, it's okay. I get it. Web-swinging can be scary sometimes," Peter said, keeping his eyes on you. "But hey, if you fall, I'll catch you."

You looked back at him and smiled. Your heart fluttered hearing those words. You couldn't see it, but Peter was blushing underneath his mask.

He cleared his throat. "So um, you wanna.....wanna go back? Or there's a convenience store down the street. I could get us some food and we can eat up here, sorta like a picnic."

You nodded and said, "Okay, that sounds nice."

For the next hour or so, you and Peter stayed up on that roof eating cold sandwiches—nothing like Delmar's but good enough—and looking up into the night sky. Peter hoped you wouldn't notice when his hand gently grazed over yours.

You did notice.

And you smiled.
