"What do you mean, you have detention?" Genevieve exclaimed, distraught, as she observed Elissa, Senemare and Bizelda from over the lunch table. They all looked down guiltily, taking more interest in their hands then Genevieve's hopeless expression.
When they didn't reply, Gen slunk back into her chair, whining. She'd have to eat alone at dinner, as she couldn't sit with Harry, Hermione and the Weasley's over on the Gryffindor table. Umbridge would slaughter her, and she'd be seen as a traitor to her fellow Slytherins. She didn't want to mess it all up already, which she had come close to doing so many times before. Two months at the school and she didn't know how many times she'd publicly embarrassed herself, to her humiliation.
"Who gave the detention to you?" She asked impatiently, seeing if she could beg enough to the teacher culprit so she wouldn't have to eat alone. She prayed it was her father, so it would be easier.
"Who do you think?" Elissa mumbled into her goblet as she raised it to take a gulp. She raised her eyes over the rim of the cup, staring into Genevieve's.
"Snape." Gen said flatly, her hope deflating entirely. All three other girls just nodded, sighing. "Ooohhhhhh." Gen wailed, casting a despairing hand over her eyes. She had no chance of swaying Snape, and would probably end up in detention herself. And as much as she didn't want to eat alone, she also didn't want a detention. Especially from Snape.
Bizelda gave her a pitying look, stabbing awkwardly at some type of vegetable with a silver fork held between her fingers. As she speared the vegetable and took a delicate bite, chewing like a deer, she shrugged her shoulders and looked up at Genevieve through hooded lashes.
"You could always sit with the Bloody Baron?"
Genevieve scoffed, her drink bubbling around her mouth as she took a sip.
"Yay. Genevieve Thornsnipe, the Bloody Baron's best friend." She muttered sarcastically, and Elissa laughed teasingly into her goblet once again. "Seriously though, what am I even meant to talk to the Bloody Baron about? I know nothing about magic, I'm practically a muggle. He'd probably possess me and make me throw myself off the Astronomy tower."
Elissa burst out laughing, smacking her fist on the table, just as the food disappeared. All of Genevieve's sense of humour disappeared, and she groaned as she rose to her feet, collecting up her belongings with the other girls.
"Sorry Genevieve." All three of the others said once again on the way to their next lesson.

Genevieve sulked moodily on her arm chair in the common room from the time she dropped the girls off at detention until five minutes before dinner. The room was empty, as everyone had begun to amble down to dinner already, wanting to catch up with other people before the Pink Toad by the name of Umbridge arrived. Gen's legs were tucked neatly underneath her, her hair piled up on the left side of the chair as she gazed despairingly into the fireplace.
I'll just skip dinner, Gen thought to herself begrudgingly. It's not like I eat anything anyway.
Her appetite had been like a sparrow's lately. Probably as it had been replaced by the constant butterflies that now resided there, making her heart leap into her mouth whenever Draco's silvery mop of hair strutted by arrogantly.
Genevieve groaned and receded further into herself, flustered. She hated feeling like this. So vulnerable, naive, willing to do anything for this boy she'd barely spoken to.
But she couldn't help but love it too.
She sighed, restless, and turned over again, onto her front, her legs sticking out awkwardly behind her. She felt like a fish out of water, so helpless and pitiful.
