"Snape is terrifying." Bizelda shudders, as they made their way up the dank, wide hallways, which were so packed with people that Genevieve felt claustrophobic. They shouldered and bustled their way up the steps, snapping at younger students who tried to sneak past and get down to dinner quicker, as they made their way up to the highest tower, in which Genevieve's father was residing in. Genevieve promised to visit him the evening after her first official day, and was going to try and get away from her friends to go and speak to him, but when she attempted to slip away into the crowds, Elissa had grasped her sleeve and tugged hard, interrogating her on where she was going, and when she said she was going to visit her father, they had all insisted that they come.
They reached the top of the tower, and felt the heat of a fire blazing through the chipped wooden door. Genevieve hesitantly pushed it open, peering around it and giving a nervous smile when her father replied with a cheery grin and a wave. "Gen," He called, jumping to his feet and rushing to greet her with a warm embrace. "How are you?!"
"Good, Dad." Gen croaked, her windpipe crushed by her father's strong grip on her diaphragm, and wriggled from his grasp. "I came up here, just to let you know it was good, and I have to go and study in the library, and my friends are waiting outside so I should go-"
"Friends!" Kristian roared, and smacked his daughter lovingly on the back with a hand. "Good job, my dear! May I meet them?"
Genevieve felt herself pale considerably, but when she saw her father's ecstatic face, and not wanting him to go on the turn, she called Bizelda, Senemare and Elissa inside, anxiety gripping her like a chain.
They all excitedly stumbled into the room, and it looked as if they had been listening the whole time. "Hello Mr Thornsnipe!" They all crowed jubilantly, beaming and straightening their backs, shoulders pushed back. They looked like innocent school girls. Genevieve couldn't help but chuckle, knowing they were far from that.
"Hello girls! How lovely to meet you-" His words were slightly slurred and Genevieve turned sharply to her friends, eyes wide, but they seemed unaffected, oblivious even.
"We should get going-" Gen started, but her father cut her off.
"No Gen, tell me about some of your lessons!"
Gen sighed, wringing her hands and looking at the floor, wanting to escape as soon as possible.
"Potions. It was... Okay. Snape is a bit-"
"Oh I know all about Snape." Kristian said sourly. "Always was a greasy little git-"
"Dad, We really have to get going. The library will be packed if we don't go now-"
"Okay dear," Kristian sighed, leaning forward, smoothing back her bushy black hair and kissing her clammy forehead. "Come speak to me whenever you can." He whispered against her, his warm breath spilling over her skin, and she was reminded of the times as a child when he and her mother would kiss her goodnight and sing lullabies to her.
"Bye Dad. I love you." Gen said, blushing and pulling away and starting to walk towards her friends.
"Love you too, dear." He said, turning back to his armchair by the fire, a liquor bottle open and reeking.
"Goodbye Mr Thornsnipe!" Elissa, Bizelda and Senemare called as they departed, and Genevieve's father retorted with a groan, and the girls made their way downstairs to the library.

"Your dad is seriously gorgeous." Elissa sighed as they entered the library. Senemare and Bizelda giggled, but Genevieve blushed scarlet and turned to Elissa, shocked.
